I think the anonymity of it and lack of real laws laid out has made it easier to do it and make people feel safer doing it.

However, I think that it won't be that way for long. You are seeing more and more companies target webmasters for defamatory comments and hold them responsible. I think when some cases in the coming years go through and set precedent as well as jurisdiction in the matters, you will find it happening less and lawyers getting involved more often.

WarChild 04-27-2006 10:15 PM

How about because I live in Costa Rica. Go ahead, try and sue me. :)

nice sentiments man

portraits are always cool - have the artist draw a rough one up and if it looks right on the arm then go ahead

but what your talking about may need some space so i would think chest or back

boring headlines get less views and conversation ...

s2kcord 04-27-2006 10:34 PM

The internet is not regulated like the other types of media well the forum is called "Go Fuck Yourself" and if the mods say it's ok then people can act however they want. If you dont like it leave not to be mean or anything.

That's not true. The internet is regulated. You can't post CP in the US. You can't threaten to kill someone. You can't post other people's work. You can't defame someone either.

"The internet is not regulated like the other types of media" I dident say it was not regulated at all you can do whatever you want why do people say you cant that means not at all can never happen. I hate to tell you this but cp is all over the place people threaten people all the time online and off line and get away with it. People post other peoples work and get away with it 99% of the time. People defame people all the time online. Get my point?

Pornwolf 04-27-2006 11:01 PM

Jonsey shaves and installs adware & trojans.

Is that the kinda slander you mean? I think you could sue for that one. Please have mercy.

biftek 04-27-2006 11:02 PM

ppl who think that the net has no laws or isn't regulated are just yanking it , the internet is no different then any othe median , be it tv, radio or newspaper , the same laws apply

but with the net things get a bit more complicated , due to international laws
like in america where the newspapers have freedom of the press , an australian successfully sued the american newspaper for defamation and won in the australian courts setting a new law for australia stating the internet has no boundaries , its not where the article/post is written but where it is viewed

I guess not.

This country is crazy. They sell pirated CD's, DVDs, and install Nintendo chips directly in the stores in major malls. If major studios can't crack copyright here, I'd expect Libel to be a tough sell.

That's what guns, dogs, security fences, armed guards and gated communities are for. When you live in a poor country, you take security pretty seriously.

If anything in this life is certain, if history has taught us anything, it is that you can kill anyone.

Sure, some people can, but let's face it, the majority of all people, including webmasters, can't pick up a phone and order a kill in their own backyard. The idea of doing it in some world country from the realtive comfort of your office is just absurd. Remember, we're talking about libel and slander here, not a blood debt over raping and killing somebody's mother. Let's try and be realistic. :pimp

think some people are confusing verbal abuse with using false statements in an attempt to harm the credibility of an idividual lol.

You might want to drop the slander part of your question as it makes you obviously ignorant of the law - but that said, the libel side of things could be a problem in the future if enough people start calling lawyers - but I do believe it will be a long time before a board owner is held liable for someone actually making such posts. Remember though, that the easiest defense to someone bringing a libel suit is if the post was fact :)

BlackCrayon 04-28-2006 06:39 AM

thats what the net was made for. anyways, message boards and the like shouldn't be considered 'media'. i find it no different than sitting around with a group of people, shooting the shit. and you can guarentee people libel things every single day in every single way via that method.
