new school webmasters - what are the new days like?
 

let's talk about the flipside of the other thread on the way things used to be back in the day: newbie webmasters whove only been around since january or so, whats your experience been like? how are things now?

I've only been around for a few months.. not even since january. At first, i just messed around with galleries.. Got my TGP up at the moment, and working on a few other sites which i hope to open in the not too distant future.

I like it so far :D

Most people seem easy going. And i enjoy doing it. So err.. i dunno, that is all i guess :thumbsup

broke into 3 figures in my first month, working on my second site (desperately need the star wars bitmap font)..

lots of competition out there, you just gotta be smart!

Actually, all I need is time.

Started really getting into the biz in Jan, make just over $1000/mo now after expenses (paid hosting and paid content). Have some sites, making more when possible...

Just have to realiz this biz is like getting blood from a stone (So....after 10,000 people visit my site, I get $30? Yay).

Convert or die.

I started in late February/Early March. I'm doing pretty well now. I'll have more than enough money by the fall to buy a new Accord Coupe :Graucho :Graucho

I have one, really nice :) just get the V6 as the 4 doesnt even compare.

they do compare .... 160 Hp vs 200 Hp plus v6 is a 3.0 engine which is much heavier ... but of course v6 abit faster :)

not to mention I4 eats very little gas as well :1orglaugh

really this biz sucks ass now -- nothing is converting for shit... the only way you can make money is on volume

I dont think the 4 has all the options the v6 ex has but I could be wrong.

I'm buying the V4 Manual b/c they only make a V6 Automatic and automatic transmission is for pussies. I'm getting a 200HP+ turbo kit for 4 cylnder from overboost.com though.

Sometimes "finding what works" for you doesn't happen in only a few months. This can be especially true when you are also working a full-time job somewhere else, thus lowering your time for your online business. It took me over a year just to figure out how money could be made from a site, I had no working knowledge of the internet or website design/development/promotion at all. Had to learn it from scratch, but it was something I enjoyed learning about and doing, so I stuck with it. Once I got my first paycheques from sponsors, I simply tried different things until I found techniques that paid better than others, and then duplicated the process over and over and over until I was making more than my old job. Then I quit. The job that is. That was over 2 years ago that I quit to go full time.

Stick with it, tweak your ads and sites until you find what works, and it will happen. But if you aren't enjoying the work, or constantly whining about not getting traffic or signups at all, then chances are this biz isn't for you. However, if you do have the commitment to see this through, don't take anyone's crap either. Good helpful advice from the more established guys is great, but if you've found what works for you, then that's what works, and no one can tell you you're doing it wrong. There is no wrong way when your plan is working.
