how much do you pay for auto insurance?

listen to this bullshit - i fucking hate living in NJ

the state let NJ auto insurance companies redo their tier program.

so im listed as under 21 as an occasional operator..

for renewal, my insurance soared to 3300/year even though i have been driving for over 3 years with no accidents or tickets!

shall i also mention the only thing i drive is a 4 cylinder honda civic, prolly only worth around 7 or 8 thousand.

im so fucking pissed, heres a warm, welcome GFY to the NJ AUTO INSURANCE COMPANIES who "are not making money"

how much do you pay for auto insurance?

:321GFY insurance companies.

[Labret] 05-11-2002 06:14 PM

God damn! You guys pay next to nothing.

2 cars, each one about 1000 every six months. So around 4k a year.

And yes I have a good driving record. Damn near spotless. Couple speeding tickets.

I think being they are new cars fucks it up for me. And living in the city works against me.

marzzo 05-11-2002 06:15 PM

holy shit - i wish i had a PA residency :)
what really fuckin pisses me off is NJ had the highest to begin with, in fact this was a pretty big issue during the election of our governor - as soon as he gets elected, rates skyrocketed!

could also be the effects of Sept 11th, im sure the insurance companies were hit hard.

eru 05-12-2002 07:01 AM

I plan to buy a Honda Accord Coupe and heavily modify it when I go to Hawai'i. I'll probably be paying at least $5000/year.

Time to shop a little...

It depends on what PART of Southern Cali you live in.....

We pay about 1,500 a year for two vehicles (a 4 wheel drive vehicle and a sports car), full coverage and two drivers. I live in Hollywood, so its more $$$.

I used to use my parents address which is about 45 minutes out of los angeles and it was about 35% less. Although when I did not go pick up my mail I forgot to make my payments lol, so I just use my real address now.

But the insurance is a breeze compared to the payments I am making on the vehicles. Ugh.

xxxcam 05-12-2002 09:18 AM

i pay fucking $300/month so about $3600/year (CAN $)

Pathfinder 05-12-2002 09:19 AM

It definitely pays to shop for insurance. When my youngest son had turned sixteen (he is now twenty-five) I called my agent to see what it would cost to add him to my policy. They wanted an additional $1200 per year. I got on the phone and began calling insurance companies. Some of the companies wanted even more money, but I found one that where it would only be an additional $600 per year. I cancelled the company I was with and went with the new company.

My youngest daughter used to live in the L.A. area. She had a new car and her insurance was $235.00 per month. She moved into another area (a more classy area) and when she received her next insurance bill it was for $275.00. She called me and told me about the increase. I told her to call her agent and ask them why the increase. She did and was told it was because she lived in a more expensive neighborhood. I told her to call them back and tell them that she would not pay the increase and that she was shopping for a new insurance company. They removed the increase and she continued to pay the $235.00 per month.

Moral of the story; it not only pays to shop for insurance, but also pays to not abritrarily accept what insurance companies throw at you.

Kimmykim 05-12-2002 12:18 PM

Argh, what a sore subject... 3k a year for one 4wd with full coverage and a 500 deductible, on its on policy...

And I forget how much on the other cars, still along those same lines...

Too many tickets...

TopTGP 05-12-2002 12:20 PM

570 a year, full coverage. I've crashed twice... I tend to drive to fast.
