Blog or Html? Which Is Best For An SEO'ed Feeder Site?

Warning... REAL BUSINESS THREAD and Kind of mainstream:

I've not touched SEO in years (since Google Florida update burned me bad and I decided building a business on organic search results was like building your house on sand).

I am looking to get back into creating feeder sites that are optimized for search engines.

And I'm wondering which to go for.

A blog format? Or a traditional 'site' made in html?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Which one would you go for? - the written content of my site is ready to go, just need to decide on the format.

For the dumb gfy masses that can't read that much:

Blog.. all the way. Just the way their software categories and organizes stuff makes it all that more appealing to google. RSS syndication and sitemaps in HTML and XML help alot too.

It doesn't matter. As long as you are updating the page regularly, catogorizing things with keyword targeted links and including lots of juicy text it works the same.

I think part of the rush with blogs is that Wordpress, Blogger and the like make it easy to do all of that. A lot of the people who are blog crazy never really did all of that. But people who are familiar with SEO aren't new to the idea.

Thanks guys for your input.

Yeah, I never really got into the blog thing because I figured the blog craze would come and go as soon as everybody knew about them (and abused them).

Looks like I was wrong because they're still here, years after I first saw google liked 'em.

the more input and opinions on the subject the better, keep it coming.:thumbsup

There are a few things you didn't list that a blog saves you huge amounts of time on. No way can a regular site even begin to compare.

Blog is the way to do it

Egomancer 04-26-2006 05:06 AM

Yeah, it seems to me that blog it would be a better idea, and I am not talking about the SEO ranking only... However you can make money from basically anything if you do it professionally.

Using a blog program like Wordpress will just make your life easier.

nico-t 04-26-2006 05:09 AM

i think it doesnt really matter. Personally i use wordpress just because its so easy to use, if i would do all those pages in html updates and creating the pages would take me 10+ times longer

cheekycherry 04-26-2006 05:14 AM

Seems lots of people think blogs are the way to go.

Personally, when i'm researching a subject, if I find a blog it usually has what seems to be random information displayed in a disjointed way.

I'd MUCH rather find a good site on the topic with good navigation etc, but maybe that's just me.

I think I'll go the Blog route on this one and try it out.

blogs really put a limit on the creativity of the pages though

cheekycherry 04-26-2006 02:14 PM

I like magic :)

Im playing with Movable Type ATM as it builds REAL html pages - I dont now if it will make that much diffrence to be honest, but it seems if you have a well organised template and are showing real htm pages to the SEs it should be a winner.

We will see.
