Check out my new Seahorse. (pic)

http://www.bikinivoyeur.com/fishtank.jpg

We've been experimenting with this starter tank for about 6 months now.

So far we have:

oysters (they help filter the water)
1 seahorse
1 Rock Bass (that's him under the sea horse hiding)
1 Sheeps Head (left bottom)
1 Some type of Red Grouper (he's hiding in their hole behind the rock bass)
1 Pig Fish (he's hiding too, lol)
a few snails

Most all of those small minnows you see at the top will be eaten by morning.

american pervert 04-25-2006 09:53 PM

thats awesome

King Adam 04-25-2006 09:54 PM

Thats pretty cool shit. Is it hard to maintain?

Spunky 04-25-2006 09:55 PM

They are amazing creatures..always been fascinated with them

SilentKnight 04-25-2006 09:57 PM

Funky.

I always thought sea-horses were those novelty things they sold in the back of comic books like Richie Rich or Fantastic Four. :winkwink:

WWC-Pajio 04-25-2006 09:57 PM

....that's nice!! can you ride it?? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Kiddin... :thumbsup

I had one of those until I went on vacation. Needless to say they were all dead.
PS: Mine was 100 gallon tank.. I switched to fresh water after that. Less hassle.

Monique Niccole 04-25-2006 09:59 PM

Cute. I've had a seahorse tattoo on my left shoulder blade since I was 18.

Not really, hardest part is walking out to the end of the dock and hauling in a 5 gal bucket of water back in and swapping it out every other week.

I think these fish are a little hardier and less sensitive than tropical fish. It's really amazing to watch them eat. They really light up and change colors.

I hope this seahorse makes it. It's pretty dam neat watching it swim around the tank. It has like hummingbird fins flapping and it's tail grabs onto everything. Amazing how much it looks like a horse. Very freaky!

onlineriches 04-25-2006 10:04 PM

how much did that whole set run you? seems interesting

cheap basic 20 gal glass tank, like 25 bucks
1 biowheel/ filter, was like 50 bucks
crushed shells and bigger rocks and all that were free from the beach
and all the fish we have either caught with a hook when fishing in the ocean or netted or trapped off my dock

only other thing we have bought is some charcoal and it goes a long way

We chose to do this just as an experiment and see what it's like since we have never had a saltwater tank before but didn't want to kill a bunch of 50 dollar fish. Turns out it's sort of neat watching these fish even though they are not as colorful as most tropical fish you see. They have quite the personality too!

sniperwolf 04-25-2006 10:12 PM

wow.. nice.. would love to have something like that

Vitasoy 04-25-2006 10:18 PM

Scott McD 04-26-2006 03:44 AM

I was about to buy one of them a while back. Was $160.

But the place that sold them then told us they couldn't sell them anymore, as they were on the endangered list. Hmmm...

kursk 04-26-2006 04:01 AM

"Not really, hardest part is walking out to the end of the dock and hauling in a 5 gal bucket of water back in and swapping it out every other week."

lol you must be joking.. I am guessing these are all caught out of the sea where you live and not bought from pet stores because theres NO WAY you could ever do that any other way. The fish would all be dead in a few days from bacteria.

Kevin - The PNN 04-26-2006 05:56 AM

cool - I have frogs in my office. They ate all my fish, so now I just feed them fresh fish. It is cool watching them rip apart and eat the fish.

seeric 04-26-2006 06:23 AM

Roger V has an awesome tank in his house.

he has some fucking sharks and eels and stuff in there too and buncha those 100 dollar little bright saltwater fish. tanks are expensive.

Wiggles 04-26-2006 06:29 AM

i hate fish stuff but seahorses are cool to look at, still wouldn't buy one though.

Cyndalie 04-26-2006 06:37 AM

Swapping out the water like that works really well for my dad's 80 gallon SW tank. He's had it up and running beautifully for 20+ years. The new ocean water totally keeps the fish healthy (both store bought and caught), the seems much more vibrant and stable. He only swaps out like 15 gallons of it once per month, just goes to the beach on a clear day :)
Good luck with your tank! That seahorse is neat!

white-rob-like-whoa 04-26-2006 06:45 AM

Salt water fish are pretty cool looking....

Th!nk 04-26-2006 09:13 AM

axelcat 04-26-2006 09:14 AM

Screaming 04-26-2006 09:16 AM

So easy to kill those things. You have better check your phs 3 times a day.
