Abonded Hotel in Detoit(PICS)

This is the eddystone Hotel in detroit, its one of the many hotels that are no longer used but have beautiful architectural design work. This one has lots of homeless people living in it. I'd love to get inside and get some pics though.

homeless people ruin abandoned buildings

fuckers :(

TheSenator 04-25-2006 05:43 AM

I wonder how much it is to rent an office?

Screaming 04-25-2006 05:44 AM

Pretty nice looking. Wonder why it went under.

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 04-25-2006 05:46 AM

That looks fantastic, it would be great to put a nightclub or stripclub in there.

Actually, the fact that they get shut down and become abandoned is what ruins them.:2 cents:

hova 04-25-2006 05:52 AM

that looks awesome

DamageX 04-25-2006 05:59 AM

So why's it no longer in use?

The Duck 04-25-2006 06:01 AM

I believe the house was place for a triple murder and now noone dares to live their anymore, except the homeless people because they are not actually human anyway.

They tried to sell it when business had gone down and noone bought it, I think it was eventually taken by the bank back in the early 80's and was never used again

DaddyHalbucks 04-25-2006 06:18 AM

Nice architecture.

wonderman 04-25-2006 06:18 AM

If you get the opp you should buy some units or the whole building. that is what I did in St Lous 3 years go. They have old textile plants that are vacant. I bought 3 lofts from some group of brothers with very little down. I just sold them a few months ago to another investor and made a bundle. So if you find anything like those pics near the city buy it if you can...

Chris 04-25-2006 06:26 AM

I dont get it
how can a building just become abaonded? Woudnt the owner or next of ken just sell off the land - if it has no value really why not sell it cheap as im sure they pay property tax?

or if no living relatives woudnt the city take over?? i dunno - mind boggling

My thoughts as well. Pete, any idea if it still belongs to the bank? Is it an ill-famed neighbourhood?

GUNNER 04-25-2006 06:51 AM

if I get to Detroit will have to pull a secret mission and get inside to grab some pics

The building I believe is still owned by the banks, and If they let it go its the city's now, where this hotel is there really isnt much but old houses and bums, its not the worst parts of Detroit but its not the best parts, a lot of detroit has been redone but that the downtown area, the smaller parts of town are stil lold and ragedy, ive been looking at a few sites with pics from detroit today that my buddies own and I am suprised at how many building have been torn down that had historic memories, ill try to post a few more pics, my next post will be the churches of detroit, the arcitectural design was beautiful before the depreession and then they stopped building buildings like they used to.

directfiesta 04-25-2006 07:05 AM

South Beach was like that 18-20 years ago .... But the location was better :)

Choppa 04-25-2006 07:25 AM

L-Pink 04-25-2006 07:29 AM

Looks like the 8th floor tenants had a sterno fire in their kitchen ...

ozmatt 04-25-2006 07:33 AM

Pete, just pretend to be homeless. Rub some dirt on yourself, bit of oil, rip the clothes and get your ass in there and take some pics!

G-Rotica 04-25-2006 08:16 AM

it's a shame to see those buildings go to waste.

SilentKnight 04-25-2006 09:43 AM

Looks interesting - if you gain access...be sure to get some rooftop shots.

Have you been to the BCT (Buffalo Central Terminal) yet? I shot it last summer during the Open Doors Niagara. Even managed to get access to all the closed and restricted areas (except for the tower).

Eddystone adventure: http://forgottenmichigan.com/stories.../Eddystone.htm

Rebuilding Detroit: http://www.michigan.org/medc/news/co...5-7707F046C1DD
"Eddystone Development LLC will use $948,500 in local and state tax capture and a $641,603 brownfield Single Business Tax credit to transform the former Eddystone Hotel into 60 one- and two-bedroom loft-style condos and street-level commercial space accessible from Park Avenue, just north of I-75 in midtown Detroit. The $6.4 million project is expected to create 20 new jobs. The city is expected to designate the area a Neighborhood Enterprise Zone."

Detroit is finally making a comeback. That was the worst looking city in America for a long time.

True, but so was Newark for a lotta years. Back in the 70s we had some friends who were social workers in Newark in the projects - and they always had some rather nasty horror stories to pass along whenever we got together.

aleck 04-25-2006 10:59 AM

pretty dull design

Doctor Dre 04-25-2006 11:01 AM

Too bad detroit's real estate aiin't booming like so many other cities in the us right now ... you could have made some really nice lofts in there
