Woman nabbed driving corpse across country
BERLIN (Reuters) - A 53-year-old German woman who was driving her dead mother across country to save on mortuary transportation costs was fined by police for disturbing a dead person's peace. "You're not allowed to transport dead people in your private car," said Ralf Schomisch, police spokesman in Koblenz, where the car was found after a tip-off from a mortuary. "The corpse was on the back seat without a seat belt, which in this case didn't really matter. But it was covered up with clothing. It is a misdemeanor." He said the woman, who was not identified, was charged with violating burial laws and disturbing a dead person's peace. She would face a modest fine, Schomisch said. The woman had already driven 450 km (280 miles) after picking up the body from a mortuary in the northern city of Bremerhaven. She wanted to bury her mother, who died of natural causes aged 90, in her hometown Daun http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060424/...many_corpse_dc |

sometimes people do strange things when their MOM dies... as far as the smell, they said she picked her up at a mortuary... don't they imbalm people there?

Who can someone disturb a dead person's peace? Maybe the mother liked traveling, the wind in her hair and the sun on her face. I hope the daughter put sun blocker on her mother - I sure she did want her to burn.

So she was sitting up in the back seat covered in clothing, what a sight.

thats a nice story

I don't like laws that force you to use a 3rd party service. I understand with dead bodies there is an issue of illness and disease, but if there was nothing wrong with the body, I don't see why someone shouldn't be able to transport the body from point A to point B. (and no I don't mean like in Vacation with the dead lady on the roof of the car).
Like here in Ontario we are forced to pay high amounts for auto insurance because the law states we have to have it. The insurance companies are making an obscene amount of PROFIT and they still keep raising the rates up. I don't think that is reasonable. |
