WiredGuy 04-22-2006 11:20 PM

Any type of medical procedure with the word ANAL right in it, cannot possibly be a good thing.

Yes, I've had a root canal before. If you have a decent dentist, there should be minimal pain following the procedure. I had to go back a few times before the entire procedure was complete. Of course, that was over 10 years ago. I imagine technology may have advanced a bit since then. :) Good luck, Juicy.

Barefootsies 04-22-2006 11:38 PM

Yep, I've had two of them.

It depends. My ortho was some Chinese dude my dentist referred me to. He was not a big one for pain killers, so he gave you a local and a few advil. I was like WTF man?!?! and almost walked out. But he used some jedi mind trick bullshit on your while he tore open your gord.

It hurt like hell. Afterwards, and I only had some dull painkiller, Codine I believe, to dull the pain. I was pretty much fine w/i a week. I did have a little swelling, but nothing like the horror stories people talk about where you look like a grapefruits growing out of the side of your head.

But, in hindsight, my experience is the momentary pain's a lot easier or better than dealing with constant days, weeks, months of pain. Kind of the pulling the bandaid off quickly theory.

:2 cents:

Belinda 04-22-2006 11:45 PM

Just had mine done a few months ago. It isn't a big deal as long as you are fully numb. Your jaw will be sore from holding your mouth open while they drill but other then that you will be able to talk just fine the next day and even later that night.

King Adam 04-22-2006 11:51 PM

Nope .. I brush and floss daily. But I hear they hurt like crazy. Take a percocet on the way to the dentist.

Kevin - The PNN 04-22-2006 11:52 PM

LMFAO

Brushing and flossing have little to do with you cracking a tooth.

root canals blow. but not as bad as having 4 wisdom teeth pulled in 40 mins.

BannerDept 04-23-2006 12:44 AM

no thanks, trying to avoid that

jonesy 04-23-2006 01:09 AM

juicy my inked up sexy brotha

i just went through it total time was 20 min - aint nothing man and anybody who says different has a fucked up dentist that didnt

a - use enough novicane or other form of pain killer.
b - give a good scrip of pain killer - always ask for the good shit and youll recieve.
c - had an abcess

some people fuck up and wait till the tooth is Abscess which is really fucked up cause that shit can cause more pain and problems because it can fuck up the tooth, your gum and possibley your jaw bone because its infected - as well as fuck up how well your crown is done.

i had a nice scrip of percs to deal with the rest of the day and the next.
after the 2nd day it really didnt hurt at all.

Choppa 04-23-2006 01:13 AM

hey juicy had two root canals done when i was 16 ( 22 years ago)

one of them did abcess up and the pain was horriffic and my lip looked like a rubber raft lol the actual root canal wasnt that bad

:2 cents: :2 cents:

Subway 04-23-2006 01:14 AM

I got twice root canals past year and both didn't hurt at all.
The only pain is the pain BEFORE the treatment.

I walked 4 weeks with a abcess befor i get a dentist,

After the dentist opent the abcess, i felt so sorry for myself, i did go to the shop to buy a notebook for myself ;)
so go visit the fucking dentist and enjoy his treatment.

After that, the root canal didn't hurt

Dagwolf 04-23-2006 01:14 AM

I had one once. I remember the laughing gas better than any pain afterwards; it was a real trip.

I made them use Nitrous Oxide AND novocaine.

I had root canal done to one of my tooth. They fucked it up. I ended up having to pull the tooth. Pic below: I'm still missing 1 tooth.

Have fun.

Profits of Doom 04-23-2006 02:31 AM

I had one, it sucked.

woj 04-23-2006 04:20 AM

It's not really THAT bad, they shoot a lot of painkiller in your mouth so you don't feel anything...

cool1 04-23-2006 04:37 AM

I had three done in the last couple of months.
Didn't feel any real pain, and after there was a bit of jaw soreness and the area of the tooth done was tender, but no real pain that bothered me.
I am sure if I didn't have a tiny female dentist with tiny little fingers it would have hurt the jaw area a lot more.
Go get it done, cause it is either root canel or have the damn thing pulled. Losing a tooth/molar sucks

HairToStay 04-23-2006 05:42 AM

Be sure to let the dentist know you're diabetic. Diabetics don't heal as fast and if they're not aware you're diabetic, they may not understand why you keep bleeding or why it won't heal so fast.

martinsc 04-23-2006 05:46 AM

i had some...
it's not that bad... the treatment itself sucks big time, but afterwards it's ok.

Had 2 of them. no big deal. Just make sure to buy some aleve (sp) It works great for tooth pain. Also you can ask your dentist for Oxycodone, generic for percocet, which with take away any pain you feel.

Ramster 04-23-2006 06:21 AM

Hurts like a mutherfucker. :(

Had one done and unfortunately he had to drill down to the nerve. A drill hitting your nerve is like pins driving into you. Afterwards though no pain and no puffing at all so it was only a few minutes of big pain and that's it.

I had a root canal on one of my molars and I was feeling okay. It hurts alot more before you get work done then it does after. Yes its uncomfortable but they give ya' pain killers for that. It all depends on how bad you're hurting.

I was in big time pain before I got mine done and I was 6 months pregnant.
Just make sure you take the anaesthetics ;) You'll be fine, its not that bad.

You had the wrong dentist. He is just opening the canal not drilling into the nerve :1orglaugh

Wow, gibe me his address so I can avoid him

i-Affiliate_com 04-23-2006 07:02 AM

Yeah, wasn't as bad as I thot it wud b

HairToStay 04-23-2006 07:36 AM

I've had 3 or 4 of them, what hurt most was the $1000 bill for each after for 90 minutes of work on each.

The worst part to me is the Lidocaine they give me (I can't have Novocaine), then I'm fine. That needle just creeps me out. I never had pain after other than some minor discomfort. I have a great endodontist who charges a lot but always does a great, thorough job.

It also depends what tooth it is -- molars have 3 nerves so there is more to pull and it may hurt a little more.

:1orglaugh haha so damn true

reynold 04-23-2006 11:54 PM

the most painful I had was when my wisdom tooth was extracted. I had a slight fever for a few days after

WonderWoman 04-24-2006 12:08 AM

I had two done. It really depends on where the tooth is and how many roots it has. Sometimes your dentist will refer you to an endodontist who specializes in root canals. You can ask for laughing gas to help. I am pretty sensitive and the novocaine worked fine for me and I did the molar all the way in the back. Make sure you get ibuprofen or the appropriate pain killer (i.e. if you take lots of painkillers, you will need something stronger). You will generally feel soreness for a bit and it may be sensitive, however it shouldn't be that bad. Smoking is supposed to slow the healing process also.

BIGTYMER 04-24-2006 12:21 AM

I've had 6 done. I had NO pain after and I was eating/drinking just a few minutes after walking out of the dentist. And each root canal was done on seperate occasions. You've got nothing to fear as long as you've got a good doc.
