How to NOT be a victim of debit card fraud.

1) at gas stations or anywhere else you use your debit card, always put your hand over the digits.... without those 4 numbers, your card is useless to theives

2) DONT shop at little shitty online stores..... they store your credit card, and they dont have a secure server ... so its easily hackable...

3) try to avoid spam phishing mails from paypal, those are a KILLER... if they get all that information, they can have your bank login and password...to transfer funds out to other accounts across europe... + they can use your SSN to do anything with..

and last of all, make shure you scan your computer weekly for spyware and botnets........

:thumbsup now you dont have to be paranoid

We've had 2 debit card numbers stolen from the trash. Its a huge problem where I live. Theives will just walk down the road and dig through your trash at 2-3am looking for important information, and December got 2 old debit cards (when my bank sent replacements) and used the numbers to buy all kinda stuff online. What really sucks is if they catch you going through someone's trash, the punishment is like a $200 fine max.

damn that really sucks, why dont you buy a shredder?

any personal information with my name on it or anything else is shredded before it goes in the garbage :thumbsup

also, why did you get a new card if your old one still worked?

Most CC's cover all losses over internet, so there's really nothing to fear.

Cross shredder and fire can help avoid things like that. I live in a country setting so I cross shred then burn all my sensitive docs.

My bank used to have the cards expire every 2 years, but due to a change in policy, they re-sent cards to EVERY customer (worst idea ever) that were good for 4 years.

Yeah, definatley a great idea. Now I shread everything. Those cards were cut up, but they still used the numbers. Good idea to cut into pieces and burn anything really important like that.

CC have the protection (minus a $50 deductible I think) but Debit type cards dont. Someone could clean out your account.

If I use mine out, I dont use it as a debit, I use it as a credit.. so no digits required, and no fee per transaction.

or just use credit cards, if you get fucked, you just call the cc company, they take care of it, and issue you a new number...

madawgz 04-22-2006 11:55 PM

a small problem that could happen with credit card fraud is if the bank doesnt believe you and thinks you did the fraud yourself...... that would seriously suck..
