plasma v. LCD ... any thoughts on what I should get?
plasma v. LCD ... any thoughts on what I should get?
I'm cheap so my budget is like 2k. |
plasma... i hate the contrast on lcds
+1 vote for plasma, cause the gas inside could be replaced to support long-life emission
DLP for me
Deeper black and usually better contrast with Plasma. Also motion artifacts with most LCD's, though the newer sonys' have improved.
Plasma seems to be more popular.
I'd go with Lcd. The price is definitely better, and if you're on a cheap budget, Lcd has better quality in your price range.
Plasmas are great but too expensive for television..go for the LCD
LCD is the future, wait until June when the new set of LCDS come out that will put plasmas to shame. All the black problems have been fixed, and the MS delays are almost gone, especially with the 6ms and under LCDS. Also, the problem with LCDS and angles are gone too. Just wait for the new Sharps coming out in a couple of months.

I think plasma
PLASMA!!!! :thumbsup
I have a DLP. Cost effective, very light weight, images look fine as far as I can tell.

Prices will be coming way down on TV's and other non-essential electronics this fall. |
I have 3 plasmas, they're the shit.
I just picked up the sony bravia lcd over the weekend. Although I like the look of plasma better, lcd will last longer and is almost as sharp
If you've got a tight budget consider a DLP, otherwise go with a plasma display.

At this time, i'd say plasma. Our Panasonic 42" plasma picture quality is superb. Had it for almost a year with no probs. We just bought a new model 42" high def LG LCD and while being more expensive (and it gets great reviews) its not as good as the plasma. The motion on the LCD just isn't quite as good as the plasma although having said this, the new Sony BRAVIA LCD will be the next buy... when i can find one in the shops :(
I did a lot research on the interweb before buying both ours to see which were the best models at the time. |
I have both 37" LG LCD (1366x768) and 42" LG Plasma
And I hardly watch the LCD. Plasma pros: - better blacks - far better viewing angle - better contrast - better motion - Xbox360 looks better on it - bigger screen for the same price Plasma sux if you wanna hook a PC to it, LCD owns this field, but for everything else, watching satellite TV (I have Dreambox 500-s), cable TV, Xbox360, watching DVDs, plasma hands down! Especially if you can get one of those 50" 1366x768 My LCD now serves a pc monitor, and very rarely I sit on the sofa browsing the net on that computer. |
don't the plasmas have a shorter life span than LCD? something about the gas eventually leaking or burning up or something...
If you wanna go the LCD route however, don't buy the current crop of 1366x768 (or less) panels, shop around for the newer 1920x1080 panels - a true HD resolution, this TV from LG, Sony or Samsung (mostly available in Europe) will cost x2 as much as a 42" Plasma!!! If you're in the US of A, you can find Westmingam (or Westinghouse, dont quote me on the brand) for cheap and priced similarly to a 42" Plasma!
get dlp both plasma and lcd suffer from burn in and color bleeding or wait for sed tvs to come out.
S.E.D tech tvs will combine lcd plasma and crt and dlp all in one
SED will be the best combination, thats true!
DLP TVs have 2000-3000 work hours, average for any projection bulb, totally not worth it for everyday watching (8 hours/day). No wonder they are the cheapest. New plasma have 15000-30000 work hours. LCDs have 60000 hours life span. |
