Internet Bye Bye

well, not really - cnn might load fine - gfy, prob not so much.

"Congress is pushing a law that would abandon Network Neutrality, the Internet?s First Amendment. Network neutrality prevents companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast from deciding which Web sites work the best ? based on who pays them the most. Your local library shouldn?t have to outbid Barnes & Noble for the right to have its Web site open quickly on your computer.

Net Neutrality allows everyone to compete on a level playing field and is the reason that the Internet is a force for economic innovation, civic participation and free speech. If the public doesn?t speak up now, Congress will cave to a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign by telephone and cable companies that want to decide what you do, where you go, and what you watch online."

Well, that's only one of many things that could happen to kill the internet.

If the UN takes over from ICANN then things will really be fucked. THey have to regulate everything to justify their existence. They'll tell you they're protecting the rights of muslims by banning adult websites...Welcome to 1984

Also, the UN wants to tax all electronic transactions to use as a world tax

Also, US politicians have been trying to use something to regulate talk radio called the "equal airtime rule" or something like that. It means that each political opinion delivered has to have the opposing political opinion too. They want to make the radio and TV like the Hannity and Colmes show. A conservative says something then a liberal says something. Maybe a Christian says something then a Muslim has to say something. Sounds ridiculous right? JHow can that possibly be enforced? Well, a majority of Congress already agrees with it.

It's only a matter of time until the internet becomes as fucked up as everything else. Only problem is....it can be abused in really mischevious ways. Some people think it will turn into a grid or matrix that tracks every living person on the planet...In other words, you'll have an ID card or implant with an RFID tag that is tracked via internet whereever you go.

sure - but if this bill goes through you'll never hear about any of the things you just mentioned - this is a more real and pressing issue than the UN control of ICANN, which the US, canada, EU and japan will resist to the end.
