NEWS.COM - Gonzales calls for mandatory Web labeling law
Web site operators posting sexually explicit information must place official government warning labels on their pages or risk being imprisoned for up to five years, the Bush administration proposed Thursday. A mandatory rating system will "prevent people from inadvertently stumbling across pornographic images on the Internet," Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said at an event in Alexandria, Va. The Bush administration's proposal would require commercial Web sites to place "marks and notices" to be devised by the Federal Trade Commission on each sexually explicit page. The definition of sexually explicit broadly covers depictions of everything from sexual intercourse and masturbation to "sadistic abuse" and close-ups of fully clothed genital regions. "I hope that Congress will take up this legislation promptly," said Gonzales, who gave a speech about child exploitation and the Internet to the federally funded National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The proposed law is called the Child Pornography and Obscenity Prevention Amendments of 2006. . . http://news.com.com/2100-1028_3-6063554.html +++++++++++++++++ What the heck does the substance of this bill have to do with exploited children? Is there really any doubt that when you go to a porn site, especially one with a warning page, that it is about.. porn? Why can't parents be responsible for their own kids? Adult content blocking software has been commercially available for years. Even if this were enacted, it would most likely be overturned in the courts for impinging on free speech. I support GWB on his foreign policy, but this anti-porn crusade is absurd. This is the 21st century, not the 18th century. :( |
sounds familiar

More litigation for lawyers to make millions.
|
truth is, the responsible adult webmaster already understands that it is not proper to foist erotica on folks that don't want it.
http://icra.org/ unfortunately, government exists to control the fools in a society. and, there are many fools. |

These people are idiots, we need politicans that have an understanding of technology before they try to make laws.
The web is a GLOBAL NETWORK - but these laws will only apply in the USA. All this is going to do is make every U.S. porn company move operations to another country, and all that taxable income will leave America. So, they basically wont manage to censor anything, and theyll boost forign economies by taking away money that used to remain in the U.S. Complete IDIOTS. |
I have it all figured out!
I will get a bunch of wetback mexicans teach them to build and submitt galleries and more. then govenment won't bother me. I will have an exemption. the man never touches the wetbacks. viva la wetback. |
dont they realize america is not the world

that's right because it's racial profiling . . damn!!!! why did my dad have to be a cracker? |
This one can be stopped really easily. All we have to do is write a bunch of letters to churches and fanatical christian groups saying they need to protest this law because it'll promote porn becuase it'll be even easier to find it now if all sites have to label it. Remember how they did that with .xxx? You people need to learn how to take advantage of the stupid and easily influenced :Graucho
|
just label your sites, it's the right thing to do.
|
What's next, US blocking porn sites, like China does?

Call me an optimist but I found the article very encouraging. Gonzales seems to be suggesting that there is a place for freely accessible hardcore porn on the net - it's just got to be labelled, so it can be filterred by browsers set up to do that. Right now labelling with www.icra.org is only voluntary (but who in their right mind doesn't do it?), so go ahead and make it the law - better for everyone.

I dont know what to think anymore. Back to selling big boobs. Hehehe
