Joomla & Mambo

Could someone please tell me what the difference is between these two products - if any?

I didn't search the answer but I think Joomla is the next evolution fork to what was the Mambo project; i.e. Mambo eventually being phased out and Joomla becoming the next supported release (kind of like redhat to fedora).

Then again, I could be mixing up TONs and TONs of open source announcements, so don't take this post any more than just a bump.

Joomla is a fork of the origional mambo script

mambo is controled by a corporation (for profit) and many community member felt that Micro Inc was controling Mambo for profit which was contrary to the Open Source spirit. Joomla was born with the breeding of Mambo and it's community.

Joomla is more progressive while Mambo took a hit. After the next release of Joomla the differences of the two will be more obvious and no longer cross compadible. At which time Mambo will be forgotten. Joomla's most exciding feature is the intigration of AJAX into the core of the installation.
