Why is prostitution illegal and porn legal?

Sex for money = prostitution = illegal
Sex for money in front of camera = legal

Where is the logic?

TDF 04-21-2006 10:21 AM

same reason why biz threads hit the floor and stupid threads about myspace and transformer turds stay at the top here

NoWhErE 04-21-2006 10:23 AM

I think it all boils down to religious groups and the power they have (or had...)

RhiannonAPM 04-21-2006 10:27 AM

Because the government can tax you on your porn but cant tax hookers. Just like alcohol and weed. They can take alcohol but cant tax weed thats why its illegal.

gdog 04-21-2006 10:27 AM

There is no logic, prostitution has been around since the dawn of time and was always frowned upon and then made illegal due to mainly society believes it is immoral.

Porn on the web has only been around for the last 9 to 10 years, they do not have a clue how to control it since they do not understand the Internet at all. The guys who make the laws are older guys who can barely check their e-mails, you ask a guy in his 50's if he uses the computer alot, most will respond barely just enough to communicate.

The loophole I love the most is if you solicit a prostitute to have sex with you you might get arrested. If you call a model agency and hire a hardcore model and fuck the hell out of her on camera and pay her its OK because you are producing content. Why bang hookers when you can bang models and video tape it!

Chris 04-21-2006 10:27 AM

wonder if you could run a whore house with the front of a porn studio
just have everything on film with releases hehe

porn is a lot more controlled than prostitution. regulations, std tests, etc. in most countries only street walking is illegal anyways, escorting is legal.

you think porn was only around since the net? uh... stag films date back as early as film itself.

tornell 04-21-2006 10:32 AM

yeah, a pretty easy way to go around the law

billywatson 04-21-2006 11:05 AM

Both porn AND prostiution are illegal in most places.

When you shoot porn, you're committing pandering, which, in my state, is a class 6 felony.

Check your state's laws, but porn is pandering, and it's illegal.

The ONLY place in the US porn as a legal form of entertainment/art has been tested in the courts is in, you guessed it, California, and specifically Southern California. I think it's Miller v. The State of California, but I might be wrong there.

Again, let me make this very clear - shooting porn outside of Southern California is against the law.

Just like hooking is against the law...unless you're in Clark County, Nevada!

NoWhErE 04-21-2006 11:08 AM

I don't think its an issue of being hard to tax or regulate, because they seem to do it pretty well in Amsterdam. It wouldn't take much for the government to authorize brothels and then regulate them.

No I really do think the problem stems from an internal moral issue in the government. Porn on the net and in films is harder for the US government to regulate since it can be produced outside the USA

After Shock Media 04-21-2006 11:10 AM

Damn it billy intellegence is not allowed around these parts.

Actually though all of California was covered with California Vs. Miller.

Deej 04-21-2006 11:11 AM

its because its organized....poeople are tested....its maintained....

its not rampant disease spreading...

notice the bunny ranch....Dennis has those girls checked weekly....what i dont see the same is though...the guys arent tested....does everyone use a condom therE? Whats the bunny ranch rules?

Most brothels have a visual dick check (like that helps) and condoms are required for everything. Then required clean ups, disinfectants of the room etc.

dragon9 04-21-2006 11:50 AM

It is all about taxes. Most street whores will not report how much they earn.

If that was the case they would just legalize prostitution and collect them.

madawgz 04-21-2006 01:37 PM

psili 04-21-2006 01:39 PM

Tyson can fight in the ring and make millions , if he fights in the street he'll be arrested.
This is an old and worn out debate.

Actually, a few years back (and maybe still ongoing) there was a womans rights group that was trying to use prostitution laws to help fight porn

fl_prn_str 04-21-2006 03:42 PM

In Southern California it?s LEGAL to make and shoot commercial porn if you have a porn permit. Technically there are no actual laws that carry penalties if you don?t have a test (AIM TEST) and you?re a performer, but I could be wrong on this one. However there are only 2 or 3 counties that prostitution is illegal in Nevada. One of them being the Las Vegas Metro area and the other is the Reno Metro area. All brothels have and follow a strict code of standards to adhere by dictated by the State of Nevada and bypassing them could cost them their license to sell ass.

HardcoreG 04-21-2006 08:51 PM

Its not about the taxes, well not fully. it is a simple play on words. You don't pay the model for having sex with anyone at all!! You are paying the model for the rights to use their images. Thus, they are fucking for free, and hey, thats Legal! The fact that they can regulate taxes and shit just keeps them away from putting us through the bullshit and causing much of a stink. They could harrass us, but we win when we play the cash for content rights card, and why waste their time pissing us off when we are making them money?

minusonebit 04-21-2006 08:57 PM

Dont worry, the religious nuts are trying to correct this oversight now by making both illegal.

Well there has NEVER been a case of a John or a hooker getting HIV from an encounter can the porn industry make that claim?

Also you're talkin about "professional" porn. Do you know how many Joe Blow pornking wannabes make porn every day? If you think all porn is made by "professionals" you are sadly mistaken. I could make aporn movie. Do you think I'm going to test anyone or even make them wear condoms? These same people would be fucking each other without condoms anyways in normal life.

Jay_StandAhead 04-22-2006 04:35 AM

as George Carlin put it, it's illegal to sell something that's perfectly ok to give away for free.
