BEST Hard drive on the planet?
Hi. As I posted earlier, my 40 GB western digital harddrive fucked up today, and it seems as though I have lost all data (although ive leartned a important lesson regarding backing up files on a regular basis) DELL is gonna be sending me a new western digital to replace this one...I will be using it as a coaster...WD can kiss my ass. I am looking to buy a new harddrive tomorow. I am looking to buy the best, price is NOT a factor.
Ive heard IBM sucks....I know for a fact western digital sucks.... what is the BEST harddrive to buy? |
this is MetaformX btw, if anyone was wondering....I am on Brut's comp
|
a baracuda is the best hd in the world no questions asked.... but if ya need a 10k or more rounds per min and baracuda it will cost ya big $$$$$$
an 80gb baracuda, 7200 rounds per min you can get very "cheap" - and baracuda beat all other hd's in stability!!!! Rgds Vegas |

In my work PC, I've got
75GB IBM 80GB Western Digital 80GB Maxtor 160GB Maxtor Had no problems with any of them.. IBM is the oldest of the bunch.. In my other PC's they're all Maxtor's, no problems there either, and they're older than the IBM.. I did have one WD go bad a long time ago. I've heard of bad IBM's but I've been lucky I guess. Never heard anything bad about Maxtor.. |
Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB price is okay (a couple hundred $us bucks)

Maxtor sucks, I went through two of them last year. |
I've had two IBMs crashing...
I'm now using a Seagate Barracuda and it's running just fine. |

I agree.... |
WD did distribute a couple of bad runs of HDs thru really no fault of their own... the comp that manufactured them put in a wrong chip or something so they died fast... they DID and DO send you a new drive under their warranty without the hassle that all the others give you AND do it before you send them your old one.
Dell?! Explains alot right there. :1orglaugh We have probably 40 live HDs in our network and EVERY one of them is a WD... some dating to 1994. And not even a bad sector on one of them. :thumbsup Odds are Meta, your data is still there. You just don't know how to get to it. If you did things the way you SAID you did, there is NO way the data got wiped. We sold and serviced more than 1000 computers a year for 4 years, so I have a bit of insight here. lol You guys with large HDs need to learn to partition to smaller drives on those puppies and save yourself alot of headaches. |
got one IBM 60gxp 40gb and one WD 800BB 80gb havent had any problems. If your gonna use SCSI segate is tha shit!
|
i'd say western digital is the best u can get for a desktop. i've heard quantum is good, but they can get a bit noisy
|
