Do we need to issue invoices as webmasters?

1) Do we need to generate and issue invoices for the commissions we earn with a program? (according to the gov)

2) Is our work considered a service? IF not, what kind of work is it?

1) Yes, but you don't need to actually mail them out to the sponsors, its just a formality to prove a service was rendered and paid on.

2) I'm not sure what you do, but if its sending traffic to sponsors, I'd consider that a commission based service.

Well I never send out invoices, unless you want to consider the confirmation of their account and rebill e-mails.

However.. all of my website, sponsor, sales, go into a business account. Whether wire, check, ACH, etc. All go to a into one of my business accounts, which has a credit card attached to it. I pay for anything, and everything associated with the business from hosting, models, utilities, etc all paid from the business account(s) keeping it nice and seperate, and easy for taxes and the accountant.

Before I deal with designers, contentproviders etc. I always ask if I can get a real invoice. Otherwise I have a hard time deducting my expenses...

In canada you dont need to send them... but you should definitly contact an accountant

This is smart. This is how my partner and I handled our last business and it was MUCH easier for us and the accountant. A lot easier than having us linked to multiple accounts, with different checkbooks and what not. These days almost everyone you deal with accepts credit or debit cards, so it really shouldn't be a big deal.
