You don't hear this talked about since it's so taboo to say anything good about Hitler, but under different circumstances (Jews not dying on his clock, and not knowing when to stop invading) he could have gone down as the greatest leader of all time.

His country loved him. A massive approval rating that no leader on this planet has ever seen (99%), or will ever see again. Mowed down everyone in his path....... but didn't know when to say enough is enough and to this day Germany is still suffering the effects of WW2 as a result.

seeing as you are talking on the good side of HItler I will say this, an extremely good leader yes, however I would have a difficult choice is saying who was better Stalin or Hitler as Stalin brought Russia into a super power in what ? 10 years when it was 100 years behind the other countries. Germany had help from sources like america, well except WSC. but I believe Stalin to be the better leader of all time.

the massive approval thing is bullshit for example... in one of the last polls (if not the last one - unsure) you could either vote for hitler or not vote for hitler in which case the vote was invalid

thats the easy way to get a good poll result (on a side note: someone should have told berlusconi about that lol)

also don't forget(if my memory from history class is right ) that although killing off the jews was a pretty fucked up thing to do , it did help the ecconomy of germany ,at the time the dollar value was on the circulation of currency , jews were saving and not spending which forced the germany dollar up which forced the price of goods up

I don't think you can consider the last polls a good measures when you consider what Matt is talking about (i.e. before he invaded Russia, etc). At the point in time when he secured the Sudetenland after unifying with Austria his popularity in Germany was indeed far beyond any other political leader in the West and the world really. But towards the end of the war of course you are right his popularity had fallen, but regardless he still enjoyed huge support, as is evidence by the feirce fight put up by the Germans until the very end of the war.

It's called a benevolent dictatorship. I don't think Hitler applies for this category considering in the end his policies didn't work out for the good of the German people, but no doubt if you read his writtings you will find he was much more concerned about making Germany great than making himself more powerful, or living a life of material extravagance (he personally hated profiteers more than anything else) which certainly differs from alot of dictators (i.e. Saddam Hussein for example).

That said, I think you could consider Putin a good dictator (and lets face it that is what he is) for many reasons.
