FUCK!!! My hard drive got fucked.....I lost all data

piece of shit western digital!!!!!
I tried to add a 2nd hard drive to my computer today, and I fucked up my main hard drive....when I reboot my computer, it shows the DELL logo, then it sais "starting windos 98 ..." and it stays on that screen forever....sometimes it shows green, blue, and red blocks on that screen also.but it wont reboot to windows...talked to a DELL rep for 2 hours already....nothing he said worked....hes gonna call me again tomorow

I have a ton of important data on that drive...I have badckups of some stuff, but not everything....

Someone posted a address of phone number of a couple of companies that retrieve your data from your harddrive....I'de appreciate it if you can repost that....I would need someone who would not care about the type of data on the drive obviously (since there is a ton of adult related materials on it)

this is the most stressfull day. fuck. I should have had more backups...that was very stupid!!!

(typing from Brut's computer right now)

get your MCSE is just a 8 weeks

wannabeapornstar 05-09-2002 07:30 PM

just install win od 2nd hard make it master and the old one put as slave...and copy all your shit

JFPdude 05-09-2002 07:30 PM

OnTrack

In fact your original software for your hard drive probably came from these people.

You will pay through the nose though ... so figure out if it's really worth it or chalk it up to expierience and start fresh this time with a backup drive or dat drive.

:2 cents:

MetaformX 05-09-2002 07:30 PM

If someone has had experience with sending their harddrive to have the data removed....Please post...can they get everything off your harddrive? How long does it take? How much does it cost?

wannabeapornstar 05-09-2002 07:31 PM

if it doesnt work than try to make an image of your old hard...

yeah, only positive thing is my sites are on servers seperate from my computer....so at least I can still retrieve those

Gemini 05-09-2002 07:42 PM

VERY simple to fix n00bie... first remove the second drive... make sure its set to slave

then remove the first and make sure its set to MASTER and not to 'only drive' or whatever its called...

ALSO make sure the cables are in the CORRECT slots on the MB

replace and reboot....

if you didn't have Windows on the C drive tho, you won't be able to add the second HD until you set it up right which I won't even attempt to go in to here. :1orglaugh

alias 05-09-2002 07:43 PM

u don't need all that old shit

just start fresh

wannabeapornstar 05-09-2002 07:43 PM

ok, the 2nd drive is removed right now...the problom started because I called dell and talked to some ididot who didnt know shit....he told me how to add a 2nd drive, but didnt tell me anything about "master" or "slave" or anything....so I just added the 2nd drive, and when I rebooted, it rebooted from the 2nd drive, which I didnt want...so I called dell again, and got a different guy, and he told me about the whole master and slave thing....so then I took off the 2nd drive, just to make sure the first drive wasent fucked up...and voila, the 1st drive(my main hd with all the date) is the one that is fucked now....

when I put in the 2nd drive the first time, the 2nd drive was on slave I believe, and my main drive was on "CS"...could that have wiped out my main drive?

wannabeapornstar 05-09-2002 07:48 PM

yo meta....you are an idiot(no hard feelings)...it cannot make any harm to your hard drive:) or affect your information

Jamie 05-09-2002 07:51 PM

No need to panic here.

1) Have you done the obvious: Go in safe mode and fix wtf is wrong

2) If that does'nt work go here: GetDataBack and get all your shit back.

A virus wiped out my partitions not long ago and I used it to recover my data :winkwink:

Gemini 05-09-2002 08:01 PM

It didn't wipe your HD unless you did it hot and shorted it. :winkwink:

I've spent many a year doing that sort of work and never lost one. You just have everything whopperjawed around. :1orglaugh

am pretty sure Gemini is right......

BUT if your not very carefull.....you will loose everything...

""THINK"" before doing any thing........

You want to put your computer back like it was.......

I also most forgot........ I have THREE (3) western digital's
under my computer table...... To remind me NEVER buy another one of the fuckers........ I've had one (1) drive go out before I started using western digital and had (3) go out....

One that went out has 10 gigs of porn on it....

Fucking Commie's...

spanky 05-09-2002 08:25 PM

if you get as far as the dell screen your HD is probably ok. You ought to be able to boot from floppy and at least set your mind at ease that your data is still there. Don't dells ship with a product recovery cd? my dell did but that was last year. I believe that cd gives you an option for reinstalling the OS and boot files without overwritting your data.

Ultimately it sounds like a problem that dell should be taking care of if one of their tech people gave you bum advice.

cheers
