KrisKross 04-18-2006 11:01 PM

One of my best friends still carries one around. We all taunt him about it every chance we get.

Vox 04-18-2006 11:11 PM

My sister still uses one but she's a nurse.

GTS Mark 04-18-2006 11:11 PM

I had one when I was 16, it was the coolest! Only doctors and drug dealers had them back in those days ;)

DH

P.S. I wasn't a drug dealer LOL!

madawgz 04-18-2006 11:12 PM

Gerco 04-18-2006 11:18 PM

I was talking with this guy whos a tech for sprint just last Wend, and is on call... so they have them on a pager... He said it was due to the fact that the company tried to give out cells to to all the on call techs but, the cells don't have service everywhere so they never showed up to calls... THEY have to buy the pagers from a competitor... LOL!

KRL 04-18-2006 11:23 PM

Doctors and hospital staff still use them quite a bit.

NTSS 04-18-2006 11:27 PM

I made a lot of money off them suckers...over 300k...

JuiceMonkey 04-18-2006 11:38 PM

yeah I had one when I was 15 I think.. it was free because everytime I called to get my msgs (usually from my mom haha) they would spam you with 45seconds of ads.. good concept IMO..

iWeb_Allan 04-18-2006 11:39 PM

I still have mine, using it as an alarm clock :thumbsup

SomeCreep 04-18-2006 11:52 PM

JFK 04-19-2006 12:33 AM

I used to have one back in the 70's it was 4 times the size of the current ones. This is pre cellphone days, the car mobile phone had one channel in town, so if someone was making a call you had to wait till they were finished:1orglaugh

DVTimes 04-19-2006 12:36 AM

they use them in the local hospital.

BIGTYMER 04-19-2006 01:21 AM

Visit Costco and you'll see plenty of people with them.

Paparazzi 04-19-2006 04:58 AM

back in the day most guys in my school had one. I remember I paged my friend when I was ready to go out to do some graffiti because it was to late to call him on the phone :)

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 04-19-2006 05:34 AM

MattOT 04-19-2006 05:49 AM

I think the last time i saw a pager was about 9 years ago lol

Chris 04-19-2006 06:51 AM

anyone who works for intel carrys them still

Tom_PM 04-19-2006 07:01 AM

Somewhere I have a case of pagers brand new in the boxes that were discontinued and scrapped. I mistook the box in my trunk for something I needed instead of something destined for the dumpster one night after work.

Hehe... I still do that to my friend. Actually, what I'll do most often is page him but with another friend's number. Annoys the fuck out of him.

And my nickname is short for my real name. My friends have been calling me this since the early 90s, so it kinda stuck.

Agreed. Cellphones are banned in some areas of hospitals because the signals interferes with telemetry and other remote patient monitoring hardware.

On call MD's still carry pagers.

I had one of those from 2000-2003, it had an email address and I setup a monitoring system for the 80 server network I used to help manage at my old dotcom...

From what I hear they've all upgraded to Blackberrys now.

Thats why I loved mine, if I didn't want to talk to you, I didn't have to call you back and when they would ask if I got their page I would be like "What page?"

minusonebit 04-19-2006 09:13 AM

I liked my mine because it was cheap and people could never confirm whether or not I got the page, and because it was easy to shut it up if it started making noise at the wrong time... just smack your pocket.

elitetec 04-19-2006 09:45 AM

No. I think they are history

Vitasoy 04-19-2006 02:26 PM

I use to have one back in HS, it's long gone now though

Sosa 04-19-2006 02:32 PM

Heh, my old boss did up until about a year ago then he started to just have the text messages sent to the cell phone when something was wrong with the routers/servers.
