Oil Prices surge over $70 a barell will this affect sales

Pump prices will go up as much as 10 cents over the next few weeks
People will cut out on luxuary items.
How much do you think this will affect us on a allready slowing market?

After Shock Media 04-18-2006 02:56 PM

It will.

Hell they will cut out more than luxury items. Even Wal mart is talking about how to deal with changing shopping patterns due to gas prices.

QualityMpegs 04-18-2006 02:59 PM

Well, I'm looking in the classifieds today for a fucking cheap Honda Civic to hold me over as a 2nd car for awhile since I am going to have to drive 60 miles per day soon.

BoyAlley 04-18-2006 03:04 PM

People will still buy porn.

Paparazzi 04-18-2006 03:08 PM

I love my oil stock and will probably buy more :)

Imagine how high it would be if you guys didn't have taken over Iraq oil fields ... :winkwink:

RayBonga 04-18-2006 03:14 PM

Of course it will.

People won't be able to afford gas, so they'll have to stay home all day.

Now, what else is there to do after a while other than masturbating to interweb porn?

HomerSimpson 04-18-2006 03:29 PM

people will eat less, smoke less, drink less
but will not fuck less because oil is more expencive :)

that's my point of view

definately best way, how to insure against rising prices. with hurricane season in the front of us (and with other political issues in the world), i highly recommed to invest in oil stocks :winkwink:

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 04-18-2006 04:32 PM

We are paying around $1.25 per litre of fuel.

sorry gas prices being so high I had to turn my electricity off for 2 days to get my bill down. Had to get the money from somewhere to pay for the high gas prices.

For those of you who say no it will not affect your sales you are correct. For those of you who think it will hurt your sales, then don't forget about the summer slow down, and all the other issues that you blame bad signup days on and just quit already you already know you sales are going to suck why do you even stick around if you know it is going to be bad ? :warning

Kevin - The PNN 04-18-2006 05:53 PM

Yes - porn is disposable income purchase for most people

For those that take the time to market and plan a little. Beliving that Gas prices wont have any effect is stupid. The big chain stores are allready removing and have stoped stocking certian Items like DVD's because they dont sell when gas gets a certian point.
If you know more about marketing please inform us.

I do not believe in the mythical summer slow down aside from the ones that webmasters themselves create.
Yet I do think gas prices will effect the over all economy and we will see it in our sales. I have a shit load of data going back many years plotted out in my spreadsheets and I have learned that when people just do not have money they cancel, they fail to rebill, and they buy less.

KRL 04-18-2006 06:12 PM

Oil is going over $100 Barrel.

And that's a good thing.

:thumbsup

woj 04-18-2006 06:14 PM

I hope this doesn't effect the stockmarket, today was a good day 2%+ :)

yes i do, and trying to compare what a gas station does vs online porn is stupid. Trying to compare offline sales to online sales is stupid for that matter. Trying to compare retail items to addictive items (alcohol, cigs, porn, etc) is stupid.

I never said it wont have an "effect" on it. Maybe 1 person out of 200 wont sign up for porn because they need the money to pay for the higher gas bills, but it certainly will not have the effect that most of you think, you know the " OMG gas is up to $3 a gallon, that must be why my signups tanked".

Of course he knows more about marketing that Wal-Mart. This is GFY isn't it?

Furious_Female 04-20-2006 09:00 AM

In hard economic times, typically sex, drugs, alcohol, and gambling always have a market. Prohibition, the Great Depression, war times etc.

However, in modern day America people have become acustomed to abusing their credit cards. They spend 5 years paying off grocery purchases at 19% interest because they are addicted to swiping that card. Most people in the US live off of credit and will forever be in debt because their excessive spending ends up superceding their lifespan at that rate.

So what it comes down to is... the people that usually pay their bills on time are going to tighten up in all aspects of their life (not our biggest customers) and the ones that thrive off of credit will just get their limits increased or acquire more credit accounts and everything will balance itself out.

All in all, it will stay the same, if not increase sales by people staying home more. I remember over the years 9/11 and Thanksgiving being some of my biggest sales days because people were home more than usual.

Now it's a waiting game with the major credit card companies. The ball is in their court.

Number of reasons.

Creates an enormous pool of capital going to people who will place it right into the capital markets.

Gold will continue to rise in value.

Makes the enhanced exploration of previously uneconomical fields in the US now worthwhile to re-invest in.

But most importantly, it will drive auto manufacturers to finally start producing hybrid cars that can get the mileage they've held back on for decades.

And it will drive massive capital investments in new alternative energy technologies so we can finally get off the oil habit we've been addicted to for decades and find new sources of fuel at less cost and more efficiency.

:thumbsup

Linkster 04-20-2006 10:01 AM

First - the price of gas at the pump has nothing to do with the barrel price - but then most people misunderstand that enough for the gas companies to take advantage of you - as far as 10 cents - Id say its gonna be way more than that - its over 4.00 a gal in some places in NY already today

Pornwolf 04-20-2006 11:35 AM

I'm with KRL in thinking it's a good thing.

What I'd like to know is why the natural gas prices have shot up so dramatically in the past 2 years? It's ridiculous.

Lifer 04-20-2006 12:46 PM

Staying home and looking at porn is cheaper than going shopping or the movies.

Maybe we need to use something like that as a marketing slogan?

Doctor Dre 04-20-2006 12:51 PM

For thoses that think it wont affect anything, you are just stupid.
The inflation will go on and on, interest rates go up, while salary wont go up as much.
Everything we use nowdays is made out of oil... well probably about 90 % of the objects we use in our daily usage... so this will go up in price too.

Will it affect sales on the short term ? Not likely.
Will it affect the economy ? Yes
Is porn a necessity for anybody ? No

So if people have less money, they will be less likely to spend it on porn.

datawookiee 04-20-2006 01:03 PM

porn is for most an impulse buy, you want it because your horny right there and then.
if gas prices are high id rather think they would drive less or get cars that consume less gas or buy less candy or do something like that, rather then thinking "im gonna cut down on porn."

Or, you might see a shutdown of recurring accounts and general loss of income. but i think the impulse buy will still be there, cant stop human nature.

Facts are oil affects us in was we have no idea about.
It will probably keep interest rates lower for now.
People are going to have less money. If there CCcards are maxed out and they have no money to pay money off it will affect us.
If they have less money to eat out so they stay home and surf porn? who knows.
