Do US citizens need a passport to go to mexico for vacation?

Or can we still get away with just a birth certificate and drivers license?

It depends. Are you flying in or driving?

I was told to get a passport before I went to Mexico. I did, and it was easy getting in and out. I was told it was made much harder after 9/11. If you're driving in it might not be so hard, but flying in I think it's best to have a passport. It's not difficult or expensive to obtain a passport, so better safe than sorry. Good luck.
