Jaguar XK8/XKR - anyone?

Anyone got one? What are your experiences? Pros/cons?

And how much gas do you burn on average

cranki 04-15-2006 07:41 AM

nobody? :(

MaDalton 04-15-2006 07:44 AM

JFK has one

i just remember one car from a neighbour and his alarm went off all the time for no reason.

Manowar 04-15-2006 07:48 AM

if your gonna go for the XKR i'd wait a few months, the new one is coming out soon

Niklas 04-15-2006 07:49 AM

I dont know why but Jaguar just seems like an old man's car

most guys worried about gas milage get toyotas and stuff, not jags . . just a thought

Kenny B! 04-15-2006 08:18 AM

Talk to JFK he's the Jag man!

HushMoney 04-15-2006 08:32 AM

Yes, I have a 2005 XJ8 L. I love it, it's all luxury, very fast and it has the longest wheel base in it's class and when you are 6'4", that matters!!

Oh, and guaranteed blowjob on the first date from any hot chick you take out!! :1orglaugh

gas mileage should not be your main criteria when thinking about jags.

i owned an x-coupe years ago. wonderful handling car, but not reliable. cannot opine on new ones.

Take XKR only.
400PS from 4.2 motor is terrific experience.
Actually they don't eat a ton of fuel because of the twin-turbo installed.
It's not a sport car. It's a high-speed luxus car.
If you are looking for real control take some other.
If you want to cruise and have the possibility to get 60mph in 5.4 seconds - that car is for you.

Jaguars are pos's. Expect all kinds of electrical and mechanical problems that are very hard to fix. Alot of mechanics wont work on jaguars for that reason.

Pornwolf 04-15-2006 12:47 PM

The old Jags had a lot of problems but the new ones built at the Ford plants are not as problematic.

They are very cool cars. You can't go wrong by buying them. Sure, the average mallrat or hood rat won't be extra impressed by it but any woman over 24 will appreciate it more than your average BMW.

dave_w 04-15-2006 12:50 PM

I have an '02 xj8 vanden plas, i get about 17-19 mpg depending on how i drive...i love the car, def highly recommended

I've put very little money into repairs, in fact, the little money that I have put in have been for very minor things i.e. window motor died, door lock stoped working, but no engine problems or anything big that has gone wrong. Im at 40,000 miles right now.

I've got an 2004 XKR Silverstone edition - looks beautiful, 400hp, flies and takes corners well. I love it - never thought about fuel consumption as I live on an island and there really isn't that far to go.
No repairs needed so far.
Dinged the rims a couple of times.
7yr warranty.
I'm trading in for the new Jaguar when it comes out - I've seen the lower model but I need to wait for the R model. The new Jag has paddle gears like the Aston Martin.

BTW I've a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 for sale. Silver, in near-perfect condition, many recent repairs to bring it up to original standard. Left-hand drive. Totally awesome car but for the same reason above (I live on an island) I've nowhere to go in it!

I was thinking of buying a jaguar last time as well. But the write off for jaguars is really AMAZING....

Also the dealership here sucked ass.

But the looks are AMAZING

You are thinking about Jag's from the past. Now that Ford owns it, there problems are the same as anyother car you might buy in it's class. I've owned a 2001, 2003 and now a 2005 and have never had any of them in the shop for anything more than a gasket change.

Geeezer 04-15-2006 04:22 PM

Fuck knows, we use petrol here.
We do have some cars that run on gas but not many.

Young 04-15-2006 04:23 PM

brother had a xk8....too many electrical problems.

Young 04-15-2006 04:23 PM

^^^^^^^^^^^

its a british car...so you have to kind of expect it.

actually it has a supercharger, not twin-turbos.

i have a XJR and really like it. i call it my 'cadillac on steriods'. its actually been very reliable - on par with the BMW i had previous. the only downside is that maintenance, even normal servicing, is crazy expensive.

my gas mileage runs around 13 MPG usually since most of my driving is city driving.

i've seen the new Jag XK8s - they look cool but i like the DB8 better which is based on the same platform but much quicker and better looking - though its $40K more too.
