Cookies Cookies Cookies.... Noob question

I hear all this flip flap of cookies n shit...and being that im no programming coding fool i have a question...

Im seeing all this talk about who expires in a month week or day....what if the surfer frequently erases their cache and cookies, then that all gets wiped anyway right?
and for the sponsors that say lifetime....when they erase it dosnt that debunk the lifetime payments??

or for the surfers that dont allow cookies period??

is this all casualty of war?

and what comes next? when the intelligence of the surfer increases or the paranoia of of the surfer grows and they unite and say fuck cookies and use firefox and then the smell eminates form the depths............ oh my.... wheres my blood meds....

discuss,....

don't know for sure, but most of what you say appears true.

Cookies won't go away though, because all the big guys (e.g. Microsoft) will resist any initiatives

To alevate some of your concerns a little hint. Most rebills are not based on cookies at all.

right, but for the percentage of surfers that clear them or even dont accept them at all....are those sales slipped by? I mean withou the cookie in the first place...theres no tracking of said affiliates sales....

right?

just making conversation here

Execept for rare cases, once you make the sale for an affiliate you have that customer as long the customer continues to rebill on a revshare program, regardless how they login as a member to the program. At least that's how it should work. On a PPS, it doesn't matter. Only recently has it come to light that there is/are sponsers that are saying they are revshare and only have revshare for a certain period of time, set by the cookie. There are som many people throwing opposing information into the mix that it would be wise to find out for yourself what works.

Lots of good information about cookies and the lengths reasons why certain sponsers choose their duration in other threads.

Most sponsors these days track your affiliate code thru the pages in the url so you don't lose out on an immediate signup. The issue only comes in if that surfer comes back later or for programs that rely on cookies to track the surfer and your WM id thru some or all of their site.

The entire cookie issue came out because one sponsor claims to be revshare but only pays out for 14 days and I think it was based on the cookie although I'm not all that familiar with the entire issue.

but yea, to answer your questions, if affiliate program tracks only by cookies some sales are potentinally lost, sales for those surfers that have cookies disabled or restricted will not be tracked... It's a small percentage though, and you should be looking at the paychecks you get, not the details on how affiliate program tracks sales...
