No Meat Today

It is good friday here in aus, i am not catholic, but i do follow the tradition of not eating meat. I love meat, but i am going to have fish for dinner.

xclusive 04-14-2006 01:04 AM

i'm going to have the biggest burger i can find:)

Sexsitesurfer 04-14-2006 01:05 AM

What a hardship: shrimp, lobster, mussels, tuna!

I have no idea what I'll be eating yet, but probably meat...

What is the thinking behind the "no meat" tradition?

It was a tradition of "penance" that Catholics started not eating meat on Fridays (which is the standard day of penance in the religion) to take away what was considered a pleasure in the past.
It was never a "requirement" and most have dropped it in the last 50 years but it is still "requested" during Lent and Ash Wednesday.

From the same religion that requires preists to be celebate, yet covers up when they get caught diddling little boys. Yeah, im gonna listen to the no meat thing :321GFY

I remember giving up chocolate and stuff as a kid, but that was for the whole of Lent...

Shrove Tuesday rocked though.... Pancake day!

CatKat 04-14-2006 03:54 AM

I have never followed any rules about what to eat or not to eat on any Holidays, Easter or Christmas. I just had tuna fish and it was very good :thumbsup

Yngwie 04-14-2006 07:24 AM

I just ate 7 tacos... I don't follow all this bullshit. It won't make my life any better or worse if I follow this tradition.I may have been baptised catholic, but I'm in no way ever going to follow any "rules" they start making up.

Fetish Gimp 04-14-2006 07:44 AM

I ate beef tacos for breakfast. Jesus can eat my shit, right after Mohammed, Allah and all the other fairy story fucksucks have their turn.

rip raster 04-14-2006 07:48 AM

I wonder what santa will be eating today?

isn't easter the day that Jesus got an errection?

kristin 04-14-2006 08:40 AM

I usually give something up for Lent and follow the no eating of meat on Fridays. This year it completely blew by me though ... too much stuff going on. I'm not a big holy roller or anything, there are just a few things from my past that I still carry on with and for some reason, this is one.

I also try and go to Church on Christmas Eve as well ... but that's about as involved as I get.

It's kinda pathetic, I guess I should either practice it or not, rather than this half assed stuff. But growing up I was Episcopalian and just some of the traditions have still carried with me.
