Why do sponsors allow theives to promote their programs?

I am talking specifically about phatforums.com

Most of these forums hotlink mpegs.

Why do sponsors continue to support this kind of behaviour?

This is pure bullshit.

Please enlighten me as to why sponsors continue to do business with theives?

SR 05-08-2002 04:50 AM

Fully agreed
All sponsors should ban sites like that.
I informed hosts and sponsors from movieforums but never got a reply.
I mailed adultbouncer and boxfrog 2 or 3 weeks ago about this and never got an answer.

12clicks 05-08-2002 05:05 AM

anyone got a url ?
I'd be happy to bounce some theives early in the morning.

Because it make's them money.

jojojo 05-08-2002 01:22 PM

It does involve me because they are hotlinking my mpegs.

I would like a public response from some major sponsors and an explanation from them why the continue to support theives like this.

Lensman:

I would like to hear from you because they are actively promoting AP and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know what your position is on this.

If sponsor ban sites hotlinking mpeg or pictures they definately will harm more honest people then cheaters.

There are lot's of people (including me) hotlinking from portal pages to content located to a central page. I'm using some catchy domain names hosted by quality hosting providers so that a gallery will load fast. They actual content I use is located on seperate domains. This way I don't need to upload content over and over again when I want to use it on new domains. I also All domains are protected by a .htaccess file to prevent sites not owned by me to hotlink my content.

Compare your sited with shops in the 'normal' world. Everybody can visit a shop, but most shops prevent themselves with security portals to prevent 'customers' to leave without paying. Consider your sites as a shop to and prevent people to steal.

I know it's very annoying when people are hotlinking and stealing your bandwidth. The solution for this problem is not banning sites, which are hotlinking but if you cathch someone hotlinking to your sites report the person to his/her host and the sponsor he/she is using and add a .htaccess file to your domain.

I am finding out first what sponsor's positions are first - so far no one has posted anything.

Secondly it is impossible to use .htaccess to block the hotlinking of mpegs.

This is bullshit and these fucking theives should be shut down.

WHY ARE SPONSORS CONTINUING TO BUSINESS WITH THEIVES?

I'm waiting for some responses...

blah blah blah

htaccess doens't work for movies and you know it

jojojo 05-08-2002 05:43 PM

exactly...

I am going to keep bumping this thread until I hear from some sponsors including Adult.com

jojojo 05-08-2002 06:55 PM

please respond with your position sponsors...

Rod 05-08-2002 07:18 PM

Thats funny.
.htaccess wont work with mpegs, yea, that is true....but hey, there is a lot of software that you can rename in *.avi to send all the traffic that is sent to this movie, to your sponsor...

So when someone hotlink your movies, just use that script and redirect all the hits to your sponsors or sites...

I personnally love to be hotlinked...it makes me more cash that way :)

jojojo 05-08-2002 08:58 PM

I'm not interested in getting blacklisted by altering my galleries.

I want these fucking theives dealt with once and for all.

Still now responses from major sponsors... hmm..

still waiting...

Alky 05-08-2002 09:14 PM

why should a sponsor care what people are doing to you... they are making money and it is not their problem.

FreeHugeMovies 05-09-2002 12:31 AM

jojojo,

Just contact the webmaster for that site and tell him to black list your domain name and movies. A lot of webmasters have asked for this and he was nice about it.

jojojo 05-09-2002 01:29 AM

"why should a sponsor care what people are doing to you... they are making money and it is not their problem."

Doing business with theives should be an issue - they don't do business with poeple who blatently steal images and use them without licenses - hotlinking is the same thing if not worse.

Yes I know I can contact them and attempt to get them to not post anything from my domains, but how long is this going to continue?

How long are sponsors going to continue supporting this kind of abuse and theivery?

I am still waiting to hear from some sponsors and get their official position on doing business with these theives.

I am not going to rest until I hear what their opinion's are publically.

VeriSexy 05-09-2002 01:44 AM

Yeah I run a freehost that host large movies up to 1Mb is size and it's a bitch to stop hotlinkers. .htaccess doesn't work since wmp streams the movies. I guess I need a programmer to make a cgi or php script for it.

jojojo 05-09-2002 02:17 AM

What you need are the sponsors to shut these douche bags down.

I'm sure we will all get their official public position on this very soon - I am going to see to it.

VeNoM 05-09-2002 02:30 AM

im sure the sponsors wont give you shit that will make them look bad just my measly ass :2 cents:

funkmaster 05-09-2002 03:30 AM

"I'm sure we will all get their official public position on this very soon - I am going to see to it."

... good stuff !!

VeriSexy 05-09-2002 04:19 AM

Since sponsors are so sensitive about cheaters. They should add that to their TOS about bandwidth theft. Just more revenue for them if they have another reason to kick someone off and keep their money. People who like to steal content or bandwidth will cheat if they think they can get away with it. That's my 1/2 cent =)

adding lines like this to a .htaccess file works great for me:

AuthType Basic
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.DOMAIN.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://DOMAIN.com [NC]
RewriteRule /* http://www.DOMAIN.com/forbidden.html [R,L]

jojojo 05-09-2002 12:58 PM

.htaccess is useless for blocking hotlinking of mpegs - and besides that is not the point of this thread.

Eventually some sponsors will respond to this msg with their official position... otherwise I will email every single one and post their replies here...

so save us all some time and start posting your public opinions on this matter guys

thanks

jojojo 05-09-2002 01:31 PM

Well, I just had a conversation with BossHawg from FreeEzineBucks and he has stated that they DO NOT support this kind of behaviour and is in the process of taking appropriate action against those that promote FEB in phatforums.com

Perhaps now we can hear from some more sponsors and get their positions as well.

Many people spend their hard earned money everyday in wasted/stolen b/w and this BS is going to stop.

There will be no programs left to promote for these theives once I am done with them.

Or we will know which sponsors support theft.
