Time to upgrade PC and a point to consider.

Ok my PC is a wee bit old. Its a P4 2.0 ghz with about a gig of ram. I only update my PC when I really must since I never game on it and I do not encode videos on it either. So if it is working I let it be and it leaves me be.

Well lately when checking out assorted video samples people post here my PC takes a complete dump all over itself. It appears that HD videos and it do not get along at all. If I attempt to load one it will clear my screen with black like a huge player is loading, then it just reboots.

Same thing happens on the fiances computer, newer pc and a little faster but half the ram. Shit reboots it.

I figure others just very well may be getting this as well. Since I doubt every surfer out there is always running a higher grade PC. Makes me wonder about those that just offer HD as their trailer options.

Im sorry but if I must upgrade I will again buy something near the top of the line currently, and it must be new. Need to take advantage of the depreciation and such.

Was just trying to save you a few bucks. My parents just bought a 1300$ vaio, it's a P4 3.2 GHz, 512 DDR2, 250 gb SATA etc, and this one runs laps around theirs.. I should have built them one. :1orglaugh

I think that is what I have, but I have had no problems. I don't do any video work tho.

Have you tried playing any HD videos?

2ghz with 1 gig ram , its not the age of the pc at fault but i would be saying more to do with some software error

On two seperate machines?

HorseShit 04-13-2006 04:26 PM

ASM can you give me a link to the exact video you are talking about? interested in trying it

Bama 04-13-2006 04:27 PM

I'm running a dual 700 with 512 megs of ram and can view any video I've ever tried to. I'm thinking that your problem isn't related to the whole pc but rather 1 aspect of it - perhaps a video card??

HD mainstream trailer in multiple formats. I get errors on multiple pc's.
Not big fan of quicktime only because media player is so common but the image quality is great when it works.

biftek 04-13-2006 04:46 PM

could also be a codec problem

Bama 04-13-2006 05:00 PM

What player are you using?

Most likely a software/codec issue.

Spunky 04-13-2006 06:04 PM

I'm still using a p3..I don't seem to have many problems at all really
