With the price of gas now days, you really can not lose when buying one. Before that were not that well worth it. But also dont expect to get the same mileage that they got when testing it. You will usually end up at about 37 to 44.

pornguy 04-13-2006 12:16 PM

What really bugs me about them, is that Honda I think has one that gets almost 100 miles to the gallon, but it is still in the " TESTING " phase.

oh shit...pics??? i hope in the next year or two, more and BETTER hybrids come out.

You don't really save much on gas. I think that they said if this is something you're looking at when buying a hybrid, you'd have to own the car for 10+ years before you'd see any real savings over an identical non-hybrid model.

ya i can see how thats true, having a car payment for years but if you're lookin to get a new car anyways, around the same price, it'd be cheaper to get a hybrid (car payment but much less gas) rather than a new car with the same amount of gas.

wonder how good the technology in those engines are, would they even last 10 yrs?

NinjaSteve 04-13-2006 12:22 PM

I think it's a great concept, however I don't know about the HP. Not much for a SUV.

that ford escape there gets 155 horsies.
ford expedition gets 300

big loss there :(

pornguy 04-13-2006 12:25 PM

Well lets see. I have an F150, and fill the tank at least 1 time a week, and I really dont drive that much. I also dont have to use the AC often, because it is cool here most of the year. It cost me 67$ to fill my tank. I get about 17.5 miles to the gallon. If I were getting 35 to 40, then I would be saving enough money to justify the payment of the new vehicle.

You get around twice the MPG over a standard model. With pricing options getting closer and closer between standard and hybrid I do not see that as the same anymore. Hell if you only spend 300 a month on gas that still is a 1800 a year savings. If the price point was 2000 higher for the hybrid you would break even by month 14.

ya we have a f-150 as well, i think recently its around $56 to fill'er up.

HorseShit 04-13-2006 12:32 PM

hybrids have a lot more shit to break.. when they break they cost a lot more to fix.. one of the down falls.

DutchTeenCash 04-13-2006 12:37 PM

gas is $12 a gallon here, they offer $5k gov chip-in on hybrids and guess what, noone drives them

maintainence is high $, you gotta service them AT the dealer nowhere else, the toyotas look crap, the lexus one costs like a Rolls here.

Plus dieselengines run a LOT cheaper and are enviromentally ok as well nowadays.

Manowar 04-13-2006 12:40 PM

looks pretty tidy

madawgz 04-13-2006 12:42 PM

that car looks really nice, and its better for the environment :)

Same is true for replacing normal incandescant lightbulbs with flourescents, but I did it anyway. A 3 pack of 15watt bulbs was $5.99 (same light output as 60 watt regulars). Still a good idea though!

In 1996 I bought my car based on its mileage of city/hwy: 29/40 mpg

Too bad we gave up on fuel economy for the past 10 years :(

Selling Diesel engines to Americans is just as hard as selling sand in the desert

Doesnt help that Diesel fuel is also so damn expensive right now and it is not as easy to get at every station.

Get a real hybrid :2 cents:

Rebecca Love 04-13-2006 01:45 PM

hybrid cars are overrated. :winkwink:

woj 04-13-2006 02:00 PM

it's still pretty new technology, I would wait a few years for all the "bugs" to get worked out... and besides the gas is not THAT expensive to justify paying few extra k for a hybrid version of the car...

Hollywood Horwitz 04-13-2006 02:14 PM

anyone heard about bio fuel cars? i wonder if it's a good idea? seems kinda gross fueling up with used oils...

Serious? In the Netherlands every station has it. Not sure, but I think diesel/gasoline is here like 50/50

Diesel is like 1.05 a LITER, and Gasoline(95) around 1.40 EURO a liter

Yeah seriously. Most of the regular gas stations do not even carry it, and if they do the price currently is more per gallon than the cheap unleaded.

iwantchixx 04-13-2006 05:07 PM

It's a ford. Expect more repairs than normal. Especially with new technology that they have yet to perfect.

Toyota really has the best hybrids right now. Less chance of mechanical failure and better energy recovery with the way they have things set up.

Ford and chev havent perfected it yet, Honda has but is still testing their new technology. So if your eally want a Hybrid thata ctually has any benefot, go Toyoto.. too bad Toyota has suffered in comestic quality over the years though.

Napolean 04-13-2006 05:22 PM

I think its a little weird that a brand new Ford Focus goes through a full tank of gas a day where as my 1990 Mazda RX-7 driven the same amount seems to last 3 times as long before needing refilled.

A friend of mine who drives a Prius told me he drove from Boston to NYC and back to Boston on 3/4 a tank of gas
