How many of you have had family google your name?

All my friends call me tanker even Ellisa calls me tanker, thats just my name nowadays. I dont really know how it happened.

Hell even my father in-law calls me tanker LOL

On my side of the family though I am still Jimmy so its not an issue there.

But recently one of E's nephews googled her name. Up comes lots of press releases and interviews.

if you google tanker though you dont get anything other then a bunch of oil companies

But when you do Tanker and Ellisa you get all kinds of industry stuff

Needless to say we have a 17 year old nephew that is thrilled! hahaha

Who else has had this happen

What are some of your horror stories

slapass 04-12-2006 10:01 PM

I uploaded an image directory with my real name in the root part. Then a google site map stuck me on the web. Needless to say the connection with a ton of porn images was not cool but i was able to fix it.

Tanker 04-12-2006 10:03 PM

Yeah that would suck I dont use my real full name

kristin 04-12-2006 10:05 PM

Hence why I don't use my last name ... I have two kids and am in school and I know people just like to Google names for shits and giggles. Once I mentioned what I did in one of my classes, well that's just say that was the only time. I had some holy roller give me crap for the rest of the 6 weeks I was in the course. It sucked.

pornguy 04-12-2006 10:20 PM

My nice has very little to do with me in any way, other than the initials. But that could be anyone.

Sly 04-12-2006 10:21 PM

I had my 16 year old brother start asking me Internet questions last summer. Apparently he was searching for stuff about me and came across a bunch of articles I wrote probably 8 years. I'm glad as fuck everything I have adult related is under my company name and not mine. I wouldn't really care that he knew if he didn't have such a big mouth.

ZEK 04-12-2006 10:31 PM

Having a petty unique surname coupled with the fact that my brother is an international DJ does not help - Hence why I try to avoid mentioning my surname if at all possible :)

Paul Markham 04-12-2006 10:51 PM

Most of my family know what I do, they don't have to Google me.

But a few years ago an old school friend saw my entry on Friends re united and then Googled me and came up with some very interesting info. We had a good laugh about it when we met for a beer.

madawgz 04-12-2006 10:53 PM

i dont know what your talking about but im going to laugh anyways :1orglaugh

I have the same thing. Press Releases are excellent for SE optimization :)

I hate it though, there are a lot of people that don't necessarily need to know what I do. Still, I have nothing to hide, if they'd ask me, I'd still tell them exactly what my job is.

WiredGuy 04-13-2006 01:57 PM

My name is too generic so it rarely happens.
WG

After Shock Media 04-13-2006 02:01 PM

Name is on 2257 statements all over the damn net. Makes me forever bound to this stuff.

BlackCrayon 04-13-2006 02:06 PM

my real name isn't connected to anything other than my domains in whois. also when i've googled my own name to see what comes up, its all other people with the same name from university physics professors to state troopers.

Tanker 04-13-2006 02:43 PM

I dont care about people knowing what I do.

The kids were the ones I wasnt telling. Everyone else allready knows LOL

Downtime 04-13-2006 02:44 PM

yeah if you google "raffman" i'll come up, but that's about it

MandyBlake 04-13-2006 04:04 PM

stephthegeek 04-13-2006 05:22 PM

I use my real full name everywhere. Never had a problem in five years. I believe that openness is the best policy. Sometimes guys will call me up, all "oooh look, I figured out your phone number," but it's all rather stupid.

Had a funny incident the other day where I was trying to talk a guy down in price for a script. We had worked something out that involved a link to his site, but then he googled my name and came across my Wikipedia entry that mentioned pornography. He wrote me back and was like "uhhh nevermind the link. I have two daughters!"

Hehehe.

stephthegeek 04-13-2006 05:23 PM

w00t! I just realized I'm the first google hit for "steph" :D

I was on the front page of the WSJ a few years ago so I had to break down and tell my parents what I did for work, which they took it ok. One problem though after they read the story they started searching for my company name and screen name of course they found a bunch of my sites it really freaked them the hell out to see so much vile porn :1orglaugh.

stephthegeek 04-13-2006 05:41 PM

I'm in an upcoming documentary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443463/) so I had to sort of "come out" to a few remaining people when they were flying me off to Vegas and shit.

I definitely find it tough to keep female friends :\

fris 04-13-2006 05:45 PM

fuck what people think.

Gottis 04-13-2006 06:03 PM

Tanker is mad unsexy for a girl's name/nick

rowan 04-13-2006 08:42 PM

My real name is littered all over the net from (non adult) forum posts and the like. It's also attached to the WHOIS data on my adult domains. One day a WHOIS web site is going to start letting google index their pages for every domain, and bang, a search for my real name will also bring up results for my adult domains... :(
