I need a good simple steak marinade

I've been just doing olive oil, garlic and lemon pepper recently but I'm tired of it now.

Got any good ideas?

harvey 04-12-2006 04:59 PM

basil, garlic, tomato, onion and olive oil. Add salt and black or pink pepper :thumbsup

corvette 04-12-2006 05:03 PM

little bit of butter

Furious_Female 04-12-2006 05:04 PM

Italian dressing (not the creamy kind)

jonesy 04-12-2006 05:05 PM

hers a good rub - used by a top steak place in LA

good for 2 to 4 steaks depending how much you like your steaks flavored
let it marinate for 15 to 30 min

4 TBS of Olive OiL

2 TBS each of: garlic, sage, basil, rosemary,

1 tsp of oregano

salt and pepper

Morgan 04-12-2006 05:07 PM

check it out.... (trust me)

there arent many people out there who know steak better than myself. and one of the best & most simple marinades ive ever used (and use 95% of the time) is MUSTARD & TERRIYAKI SAUCE.

mix the 2 equally, dont forget a little salt and pepper (and garlic if you wish).

harvey 04-12-2006 05:07 PM

more:
olive oil, thyme, onion and lots of black pepper

argentinian chimichurri (one of many recips): dehidrated red pepper, parsley, garlic, salt, 1 part of vinegar, 1 part of warm water, 3 parts of corn or regular oil. Leave it resting for 1 day

good for pork:
curry, soy sauce and a bit of sugar

Balsamic vinegar, as an add-in to any of the fine suggestions above, makes for a surpisingly agreeable piquancy, I have found - :)

Steak costs an arm and a leg because the meat is where the good flavor is. Throw that sucker on the grill and get ready to enjoy. Salt as needed after it is done. ;)

chadglni 04-12-2006 05:15 PM

I can't believe everyone screws up a good steak. :(

Exactly!!! If you buy a good cut of meat and cook it correctly, the steak will flavor itself.

well, I don't eat steak everyday because I'm bored of it, so yes, I try new stuff to make it more appealing :thumbsup

btw, I'm a professional chef as well :winkwink:

Chefs like to play with shit. I'm not a chef, just a steak lover. Just last month I ate 12 big ass T-Bone and Porterhouse cuts in 4 days. Some were fully smoked, some were smoked / flamed and that is enough variety for me.
I would have kept going until I impacted my colon but I ran out and too lazy to hit the store.

Tomato and basil leaves with olive oil and a little spruce of oregano. Taste incredible with chicken or steak.

I've been grilling skirt steaks over a charcoal grill; marinated in lime juice then rubbed with Mexican fajita seasoning.

If you have any Mexican groceries in your area is the best place to find skirt steaks.

The taste is incredible!

Peaches 04-12-2006 06:29 PM

Red wine, italian dressing, worcheshire sauce. Stick it all in a zip lock bag and let it sit overnight.

RobbieRye 04-12-2006 06:29 PM

Smear some club house montreal steak seasoning over the steaks.

Put them in a container

Dump some good tasting wine in the container with the steaks - keep pouring until the steaks are 1/4 covered (just a bit)

Let sit for no more then 20-25 min

Cook away

Poor leftover sauce on steak when you flip the first time

Mmmmm

I like:

1 cup red wine
1/4 cup olive oil
black peppercorns (about 6)
1 bay leaf
3 sprigs of thyme
1 tablespoon of brown sugar

and I do one similar to Morgan's Mustard and Teriyaki - give that ago, I bet its a winner!

kristin 04-12-2006 07:58 PM

Hey RRRED ... here's a good one. I use to eat steak plain until we found this little goodie! : )

2 tbsp. of virgin of olive oil
2 tsp. lemon pepper
2 tsp. black pepper
Salt
Cayenne pepper
Tobassco sauce
Garlic powder
Fresh pressed garlic as well

rhon23 04-12-2006 08:15 PM

perfect for kabobs ... (i substitue shallots for scallions)

1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
4 scallions, washed and cut in 1/2
2 large cloves garlic
1/4 cup lime juice
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar or Mexican brown sugar
2 pounds inside skirt steak, cut into 3 equal pieces

Heat charcoal, preferably natural chunk, until grey ash appears. In a blender, put in oil, soy sauce, scallions, garlic, lime juice, red pepper, cumin, and sugar and puree. In a large heavy duty, zip top bag, put pieces of skirt steak and pour in marinade. Seal bag, removing as much air as possible. Allow steak to marinate for 1 hour in refrigerator.

sniperwolf 04-12-2006 09:45 PM

damn now I am craving for some sizzling seafood kebobs

Slow down chad. That much meat will seriously clog up your arteries.
