Warren Buffett predicts nuclear attack on US

Article here

If somebody nukes the US, they'll drop 2 or 3 nukes on whoever they think did it..

he's just lookin for some cheap advertising for his investment company.

vidsweb 05-07-2002 05:26 PM

I think he has a good point. Big insurance companies should be worried about a nuclear attack on the US.

Yeah, insurance companies, and the millions of innocent people who could lose their lives.

I don't think anyone will be able to nuke us per se. What worries me is some jerkoff flying an airliner into a nuclear powerplant. We would then officially be in a world of shit (as would the country that attacked us). I don't understand why they didn't do that to begin with. A few thousand lives sounds like a big deal, and it is, but can you imagine an airliner being crashed into a nuclear powerplant? If we escaped with a few hundread thousand deaths after that, we would be lucky. I do believe if that happened, the US would completely wipe a country off the map and I would completely support that.

If there were a nuclear attack and millions of Americans did lose their lives, I don't see how nuking another country and killing millions of THEIR innocent people really helps.. of course you have to do something in return, but if the answer is dropping a nuke, then we're all screwed. :)

FlyingIguana 05-07-2002 05:37 PM

i think biological weapons is much more likely than a nuclear attack.

he's really not saying anything that hasn't been said before. everyone realizes the risks that are out there, and it can happen anytime.

vidsweb 05-07-2002 05:42 PM

The US could only strike back at another country itself if they could prove that the attack was supported by that country.

Just because the individual attackers might be from a certain country doesn't mean the US could just start dropping nukes on that country. Thus, the reason terrorism is so affective.

That would be a really shitty situation for the US to be in. Americans would want to see some retaliation, but the people who did the attack died in the attack itself, and if the attack isn't sponsored by another country, then the US is really limited as to what they can do.

Scary stuff huh?

thats the whole point of owning nuclear weapons,,,, no country intends to use them,,,,, it just to have to say they have it to seize more power,,,,

Well, basically the same thing happened with Afghanistan. We asked that those that were responsible be handed over to us. They refused. By refusing, they basically said "fuck you". Now, the Afghan "government" was not a UN recognized government, which I am sure prevented us from acting more harshly against the country. Had it been a true government that refused to turn over those responsible for a major attack on US soil, they are basically supporting terror and should then be wiped off the face of the planet. If a country is truly for peace and one or more of their citizens carries out a major attack against another country, they will turn the terrorists over immediately as well as aid the victim country in gathering intelligence and making arrests within their country. As long as that happens, we'll all be fine.

Yeah, the country where the attackers came from might help and hand over the rest of those who are responsible, but thats all after the fact that a nuclear bomb was exploded in the US.

The real question here is: Can the US prevent another major attack against itself?

Warren Buffet is just being realistic. He knows that there is a good chance that there will be another major attack.

We use to have Nukes that would just take out something like a 2 to 5 sq. mile area....

Am sure we could if we have not all-ready throw some more together..

Nukes are not the all doom's day you might think.... Am not saying I want one dropped in my backyard... And if some person, country or group uses one god forgive them because there ass belongs to the USA.... We'll hunt'm down and Kill'm.. or Nuke'm then there mothers, bothers, sisters, kids, and friends are history.

I doubt the US would ever use nukes that would just destroy a 2 to 5 sq. mile area.

There is a seriously negative symbolism towards nuclear weapons in the world community, so if any country was gonna use them, they're not gonna piddle around with little baby nukes.

Our average nuke is 1-5 Megatons. That is the equivilatent of 1 to 5 million tons of TNT. The nukes we used on Japan were between 10-20 thousand tons of TNT.

A 1 Megaton nuke will kill everyone in NY City, with blast and radiation sickness. It will kill others in a much greater area by giving them cancer, which will eventually kill them. Breathe in a single microscopic spec of plutomium and you are a walking dead man.

All of us here in NY thank you for that graphic explanation. I hope an earthquake doesn't happen in California anytime soon.
