a riddle.. How SMART are YOU?

What weighs more, a Pound of Feathers or a Pound of Gold? and give a reason why!

p1mpdogg's post about buying gold inspired me :)

That isn't a very good riddle.

Funny, ha-ha! :)

A pound of feathers weighs more. The whole avoirdupois pound vs. troy pound deal.

BrettJ 04-11-2006 02:03 AM

a pound is a unit of measurement. a pound is a pound - they both would weigh the exact same thing

BrettJ 04-11-2006 02:06 AM

there is the answer :thumbsup

Precious metals are weighed on a Troy scale. There are only 12 ounces to a pound on the Troy scale.

Hence a pound of feathers weighed on an Avoirdupois scale has 16 ounces so the feathers weigh more.

Good work Fucksakes

What he said... I think they teach you this in 3rd grade don't they? 1 pound doesn't necessarily equal 16oz, kinda similar to how 1Mb doesn't necessarily equal 1024Kb.

Well, maybe not part of the regular curiculum, but I remember out teacher explaining this one when he went off on one of his many "interesting facts" tangents. Ok maybe it was 4th grade, it's been a while :)
