The .EU landrush fiasco
http://www.bobparsons.com/StupidEuropeanTricks.html
anyone know, who the company X is that Parsons is talking about? |
Sadly I don't have enough money to compete in the domain name game...and this story just reiterated that fact.
|
yep I know ............ but heh .............. it is easy to find out so ............ although you are Belgium you will find out .......... one day ............ jeez

very interesting read thank you
|
Had to figure that would happen. .EU is fucked up already anyways. Its all speculators. There aren't enough real site developers in the mix. It'll end up being a zillion PPC landing pages.
:1orglaugh |
Smells like Pool.com, but KRL.. who was Snapnames working for to get a lot of .EUs? I didn't see them officially accepting .eu landrush registrations. Any idea?

btw, you're not the first, but Belgium = the country Belgian = the nationality :winkwink: |
lol I like how Bob closed the article.

Problem with the .EU is that there isn't enough knowledge about the internet it seems and those who know, abuse it through the roof wow, my 1000th post |

Just the amount of money they must have spent for the LLC's is mind boggling.

|
Its Europe - what do you expect other than a pile of dogshit?
|
Funny how Bob Parsons is crying about this, while he actively supporting the .xxx tld. :1orglaugh Until he stop his own short-sighted greed with the .xxx tld., then he should just STFU on these issues :2 cents:

Well,
Such is life.... Egomancer |
agree. big scandale!
note: such obvious scams wouldnt take place soooo easily offline. |
it's a disgrace what has happened. I totally disagree with his comments in the last paragraph. Makes him sound quite stupid actually considering all the shit that happened with .COM
I was thinking POOL. No evidence to back that up but they seem to have caught a lot of domains! Terry |
"The Internet needs to stay under U.S. control.
Therehahaha8217;s been much talk in Europe about the way the United States has handled the Internet. If the way EURid has bungled the introduction of Europehahaha8217;s very own domain name is any indication of their Internet management capabilities, we should all hope and pray that the Internet never leaves Americahahaha8217;s control." Idiots. |

but besides that, and ignoring the fact he mentions his vietnam service in every paragraph, he sometimes says something interesting |

Bob Parsons is a complete asshole. He's so full of himself it isn't funny. If he wasn't so busy riding his high horse maybe he would've figured out a way to get more .eu domains rather than crying on his blog how the US needs to save the Internet.

Yip. We can't argue with his business. He's created a very impressive company.
He does sounds like a complete dickhead with his comments though. I think he's just pissed he didn't or couldn't figure out how to grab the .EU domains! Terry |
Adult.eu = Belgium
Porn.eu = Nederlands Softcore = Nederlands blonde.eu = Nederlands porno.eu = Belgium Babes.eu = Nederlands Babe.eu = Nederlands Fuck.eu = Belgium Lesbians seems to go to Nederlands Gay = nederlands Extreme = Nederlands EURid is places in Belgium. Nederlands is Holland and Belgium. Do I need to go on? Seems like something smelling! |
Nederlands and Belgium got 21,7% of all domains.
In population they are only 5,8% of EC. |
Any word from Pool yet ? Supposed to have started some auctions today but I haven't gotten an email update.
Anyone heard from eNom about their pre-registrations VIP and Standard Queues? |

nice to know what sort of vocabulary you have |
these .eu pool auction names .. think they'll go $1k .. $5k .. $10k.. or higher?
|
I knew it would be messed up so I didn't bother trying to score domains, only applied for 3 names at landrush but they all failed. It's like KRL stated in this and other threads, it will be ppc and because of this .eu won't have much of a value (in the next few years) and people will avoid them imo. Even google will realise this.

What a ridiculous game! It's why I am not playing, at least not right now. Google will be cool with .EU, I imagine. But, as KRL stated, the flood of PPC pages may tarnish the name with companies and web surfers. .EU is just another .COM wannabe, at least for now. |
Quote:
Yeah, I am sure they will. I managed to pick up a couple of really good one-word domains without having to bid for them but most of them are in auction right now and I doubt I will actually buy any of them unless they stay under a few hundred euros. |
Would anyone be interested in a list of the top .eu names Pool caught?
|
What amazes me is the hype over .eu domains. For the huge majority of people and smaller businesses in the EU they have no use or value. You tend to either market to your home crowd (so you want a .co.uk, .fr etc etc) or globally (preferably a .com) - very few concentrate on the eu as a geographic region. IMHO they are little better than a .info domain ie 95%+ will be spam sites.
I predict a lot of domain speculators soon realising they have many essentially worthless domains. Obviously this does not include the true premium names but even those I suspect will be worth less than many (especially those outside of the EU who bought them via BS companies) believe them to be. |
Quote:
i agree btw that going for a few thousand eu's is risky. getting up to 100 in the sunshine period though- now that would be a nice hedge. bowing out on this one would make no sense to me from a speculative position. going huge sometimes means getting that 1 crazy domain or 10 crazy domains and 30 second-teir crazy domains.... |

I can't see EU ever being a huge hit unless the development to speculation ratio evens its self out.
