Google and Yahoo are buying installs

so you should definitely boycott those two sites.

evil corporations installing software on my computer, after I'd agreed to it! How dare they!!

</sarcasm>

you guys complaining about legitimate installs are fucking retards. uncheck the install box if you get upset that easily.

jjjay 04-08-2006 06:02 PM

For example - I installed WinDVD the other day and Google Desktop came bundled. Did I go crying to the nearest chat board? No I didn't.

Take a good look at yourselves, and see if you can work out where you went wrong with your lives.

madawgz 04-08-2006 06:06 PM

Young 04-08-2006 06:44 PM

shut the fuck up

big difference between a google toolbar that just sits there...and a fucking malware/spyware piece of shit software that creates popups, changes my homepage and fucks with my desktop.

I have never heard anyone complaining about legitimate installs, sometimes people generalize because most installs are garbage scams , but i have never heard anyone complain about legitimate installs , hell i.e. is an install so is winblowz - whoops cratch that i guess people do complain about windows alot. but hey there will always be complainers unless you give shit away for free

biftek 04-08-2006 07:00 PM

well i know it pisses me , sure it might be legit software , but if i wanted the shit on my pc i would install it myself

when software installs the toolbars like google/yahoo/msn , it means that the software is getting a kickback for installing the shit , just like with firefox getting kicksback for making google the default search engine

"Google Desktop is not spyware. Spyware is software that reports on your activities or gathers personal information about you and sends it via the Internet to third parties without your knowledge or consent. Google Desktop is installed only with your explicit consent. And unlike spyware, Google Desktop does not send your personal information to Google or any other third party without your explicit permission... more

Amazing how their wording is chosen - they and yahoo just give the personal information to third parties - they dont "send it via Internet"
Anyone that thinks Google doesnt collect personal data is living in a dream world - ever wonder why they fought the DOJ so hard to prevent releasing the info - it would be a PR massacre if the public found out - of course Yahoo, MSN and the others dont try to hide it as much so DOJ got everything they wanted from them

you people (you gfy'ers) are fucking experts at everything and apparently know tons of information that is not open to the public.

My one question to you is why are you still posting on GFY if you appear to know everything? :upsidedow You should be on some television show revealing all this secret information...

These are not secrets. In fact, this information is public by design. And because GFY is more efficient than TV - :)

I completely agree, yet everyone was ready to crucify me in the other thread for saying I do legal installs? :(

Google toolbar is a piece of shit. I dont use it. But, I dont see what everyone is bitching about. If you dont want to install it, uncheck the box. Far different from when some app is snook in through the backdoor and you dont know about it.

good answer. I was just trolling a little to bring out all the haters whining about any type of install.

I don't like installs, but instead of whining about it I'm just very careful.

and I agree - many installs are rubbish, but they're often easy to avoid.

maybe though I'm in the minority - I actually read the T&C's when someone's trying to convince me that this game is "100% free!"

Absolutely. I'd be interested to know how much Google pay per Desktop install.

hehe

3/10 for effort

jjjay 04-10-2006 06:45 AM

btw - I think it's a bit naieve to say that google toolbar "just sits there"

I bet if you knew how much data they have on you because of that toolbar, you'll fall off your chair

jjjay 04-10-2006 06:52 AM

oh yes, I forgot - more huge legit companies buying installs:

hotbar.com
freeze.com
smileycentral.com

they're legal, and make shit loads of money. go crying to them haters.

BlackCrayon 04-10-2006 07:44 AM

these are not the types of installs people are complaining about, not me at least. im talking about the ones that pop up automatically when you load a page. if i choose to click a link to download an app and other things come with it, thats a totally different story. go to any lyrics site. you'll find install after install popping up over and over with the good ole 'you must click yes to continue' 10 times over installing things that redirect popular sites and pop windows randomly amoung other things. these are obviously the lucrative installs.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 04-10-2006 08:04 AM

freeze.com jacked up my moms computer. She installed a screen saver... took me forever to get rid of that shit.
