In its 93-year history, Harlem's Apollo Theater has played host to a who's who of hitmakers and legends, from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday to the Jackson Five and Parliament Funkadelic. But it's pretty safe to say that the venerable venue never seen anything like what will transpire there this April.
That's because the Gorillaz have just been confirmed for a weeklong residency at the Apollo, scheduled for April 2-6.

The shows ? similar to their five-night stand at the Manchester Opera House this past November ? are being billed as a "tribute" to the band, and will feature Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn performing the platinum-plus Demon Days album in its entirety, joined onstage by De La Soul, Ike Turner, former Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird and Bootie Brown from the Pharcyde (all of whom appear on the album) plus other guests to be announced.

Tickets will go on sale March 10 at 11 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

A spokesperson for the Gorillaz said that the Apollo shows are in no way related to the band's much-discussed world tour (see "Gorillaz Target 'Dirty Harry' As Third Single; World Tour Begins To Jell"), which is currently in the pre-production stage and is still scheduled to launch in 2007.

Albarn explains: "At the moment we're like, that's probably the last album we make, I don't think we could make a better album than Demon Days really, for what this is and how it works.
then this

"Last night we thought, 'Surely this isn't the end', and I don't know we're saying it's the end again, but it's quite a hip-hop thing to retire and come back you know."

They recently stated that they didn't think they could produce another album that could top Daemon Days.. So they want to go out while still on top, rather than put out a shitty album. Or something to that effect.

That and the lead guy is supposed to start up Blur again.

well, they still have a HUGE 2007 world tour in place, so it is going to be a while til we see the last of the Gorillaz, and I am pretty sure from that comment the lead singer made that I posted above that they will be back again

I was actually at the AVN show a few years back and ended up in a party at Metro's suite, and there was another shy guy like me there and we sat down and chatted for like an hour about random shit....it turns out he was the drummer for Blur, that was pretty cool, i think his name was Dave or something
