Well, being as I train at a Gracie Barra BJJ Academy, I'd love to see Royce win. I'm afraid he might be a bit too old and Hughes a bit too strong though.
I rebooted, deleted temp files, history, cookies and everything...still cannot view the news clip. All I see is that fucking gay ass music video from "Rick Roll". Anyone else have a different link to the news clip?
I expect an absolute slaughter by Hughes, but I'll be rooting for good 'ol Royce anyhow. Lets not forget that it wasn't too long ago that Royce took out Yoshida, a legitimate modern day fighter, and he looked good giving him the GnP. He's got a shot here. Hughes is extremely susceptible to subs and he might be spending so much time concentrating on not getting subbed that he won't be able to get any elbows in.
Good matchup. I'm looking forward to it. Royce will put on a show.

He took out Yoshida? When? They fought twice one ended up as a no contest cause Gracie went on bitching then the second one was a boring draw... I really can't hack how Gracies always want the rules bent... Either accept the rules or don't fight...

HAHAHA!!! You do realise Yoshida took that fight with an injury... Not to mention Gracie without a full gi... What happened to the "rematch" the 50 year anniversary of helio vs kimura... the "judo vs. jiu jitsu"... it's obvious gracie did anything to gain any upper hand in that fight...
I've kinda talked this one out on the fight boards like Sherdog and at class. I study at a Gracie school and actually have a private lesson with his brother Royler this Tuesday... but I just don't see how he's going to beat Hughes 9 times ouf 10 anyway. There's always a chance but I'm not seeing it as a strong one. =[
I've watched UFC a few times and while it's interesting I find it very hard to see who is the better fighter. It's just a bit too messy especially once they're on the ground. When it's mixed martial arts rather than a specific art form, how do you tell if 1) the guy got lucky 2) one fighter is more skilled in a particular art form and that's what gave him the win (in other words technique versus mere strength) 3) the winner was simply stronger and won because of it.
For me, watching for example two guys schooled in the art of Karate going head to head is easier to make a call on who is more skilled or a talented fighter. When I watch two guys boxing, it's easier to see who has power and who doesn't but if the guy who is weaker is more skilled, he can still win.
Do I just not understand mixed martial art fighting and need to train my eyes to watch it more carefully, or is it in fact much harder to decipher?
I never did like him in the early days of UFC! i liked stand up fighting and he always took it to the ground!
But now ground fighting has come a long way and its enjoyable to watch.
I'd love to see Gracie win, but thing is Matt Hughes is still in his "prime" if you will. Plus he needs to stay on top in order for St-Pierre to take him out, right??
PS I wasn't aware some GFY'ers were into MA, happy to see there are a few BJJ guys here Perhaps we'll get to roll someday
