Another potentially cool shoot location! [PICS]

One can never have too many good photoshoot locations.

This one's a few hours east of Toronto - an old abandoned bakelite plant (complete with lots of yummy formaldehyde to rot your insides).

(yours truly in the last pic) :winkwink:

haha.. that's awesome! my buddy used to work for a company years ago that got huuuge funding (around 80mil), they sat there all day and built different level variations of the office they were in and played all day/night... they blew that money in 6 months hahahaha sad

Wiggles 04-08-2006 04:42 AM

Yeah, its a valid concern sometimes. But these places are all well-ventilated with collapsed walls, holes in the roof, etc. I'm careful not to touch stuff and I only spend a few hours wandering around.

I go by the old motto - if it don't kill me...it only makes me stronger, heh.

I did too, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Likewise, years ago I used to build map levels and design sprites for DN3D...but I wasn't shootin' old abandonments back then.

Missed opportunities, heh...

wyldblyss 04-08-2006 07:07 AM

I weird, I would love exploring places like that.

Research...a sixth sense - and a little old-fashioned dumb luck. :winkwink:

Morgan 04-10-2006 01:45 PM

would you be willing to spare those pictures in hi-res? i wouldnt be using these commercially, just to play around with.

Tom_PM 04-10-2006 01:48 PM

Cool, you could make up some killer torture devices, hehe

tornell 04-10-2006 02:05 PM

Thanks for asking, but I'm afraid I'll have to say no - sorry. As a commercial photographer I regard them as merch.

adonthenet 04-10-2006 05:18 PM

nice find :)

wdsguy 04-10-2006 05:22 PM

You could get killed by a serial killer/homeless bum in there and nobody would find you for months and months.

Screaming 04-10-2006 06:08 PM

I just dont see it.

tony286 04-10-2006 06:26 PM

man you should be a location scout for horror movies.

CyberHustler 04-10-2006 06:26 PM

Best excuse there is for not paying taxes. :winkwink:

While there's always that element of risk, I've been doing it for years and take a number of precautions. My wife always knows where I'm going and an approximate time I'll be home. I always carry a cellphone, a hunting knife and a 4D maglite for security. And I took combat training in the Canadian military years ago, 3 yrs. of martial arts...and I'm still in very good physical condition. Not to say I'm invincible, of course...nobody is. But I feel sorry for the other dude more than I'd worry about my own safety.

Stealth is always best, of course. Chances are I'd hear someone else before they heard me.

sfera 04-10-2006 07:01 PM

nice man shoot some grunge shit there

Probably, yeah...although I didn't see any myself. The worst I seen was one large area had a dozen or more 50-gallon drums of formaldehyde - just sittin' there rustin' away. It was used in the manufacture of the bakelite products, and I guess they failed to clean the shit out when they shut the plant down.

Its a toxic nightmare. The factory is about a hundred yards from the shore of Lake Ontario, too. No doubt there's been a lot of ground seepage over the years.

Condos anyone? :winkwink:
