Anyone familiar with Austin Texas?
Me and some friends are planning on going to Austin for the Memorial Day Weekend. We are thinking about floating down the Guadalupe River on inner-tubes and getting fucked up on one of those days.
One of my buddies is bringing his 24ft Scarab so we can go out on Lake Travis too. But we are looking for a recommendation on where to go for a hotel on the water with slips. Actually any recommendations on the whole trips would be sweet! thanks, J |
Well, I was born and raised here in Austin, so I'm probably more familiar with it than anyone, but I don't think we have any hotels with water slips. Closest you'll find is probably the Lakeway Inn and I don't think it's on the water.

I don't believe the Guadalupe runs thru Austin. It runs thru Kerrville, San Antonio and New Braunfels.
|
No? damm...how packed is that lake going to be on that weekend? Do you recommend any inner-tube rental companies? Or is there any hotels near 6th street...that way, I don't have to drive all fucked up.

Real quick before I go, when ever we go tubing we usually rent the tubes from Rockin' R in New Braunfels. Here's their info:

I'm in Houston, but I went camping at lake travis quite a bit as a kid. Crystal clear water with a mostly rock bottom, just stay away from hippy hollow:winkwink:
The places in Austin you were talking about are probably van tour type places, bus you down, drop you off and pick you up later down stream. |
www.infowars.com - Austin is home of Alex Jones :thumbsup

lake austin is where you want to be not lake travis. the hula hut is right on lake austin and it goes off. they have docks so if you get board you can always stroll down to 4th and 6th st midstream..
|
We have friends with property on the Guadalupe and tube it all the time, its out of New Braunsfels.
The Colorado River is in Austin Lake Travis is awesome but there seems to be more college crowd down on the G River on weekends ; ) Rockin R for tube rentals btw hippy hollow is more of a swingers hangout so yeah, you'll see all shapes, ages and sizes there lol |
Ok, so we are going to do the Guadalupe River for tubing for sure.
Now, the prime place to have a boat docked would be on Lake Austin? And say NO to the Hippy Hollow, no matter what they say!!! Any good hotels in the 6th area? |
Jay
All the normal hotels are dowtown .. Marriot, Omni, Hilton etc etc .. all very near or on 6th To dock a boat? .. on/near Lake Travis (not lake austin hehe), only certain rivers allow boats with motors but all the Lakes do |
I live in San Antonio and if you want to float the River go to New Braunfels. I don't think there's a place in Austin to float the river.
|
Now if you want some truly primo tubing, go to Leakey Tx. It's a drive but the water is crystal clear and spring fed. Nice and cool.

I didn't know we had so many Texans in here lol
we should do a meet and greet! |

The prime place to have a boat docked (for weekend use) if you want to be around all the hot chicks is Lake Travis for sure. You can dock at Carlos and Charlie's for fun and food. Also, you may want to check out Devils Cove (on Lake Travis); it's where all the hot coeds and strippers lay out on the boats and sunbathe nude. You will have to ask a local about directions when you get here though because I can't give you directions unless you're familiar with the layout of the Lake (but it's close to Carlos and Charlies). Good hotels in the 6th Street area are the Driskill and the Omni (there's also the Sheraton and a few others). |
