:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

i was intrigued at first then i really thought about it and realized that they forgot "soda pop" category.

d_train 04-06-2006 06:00 PM

LittleMack 04-06-2006 06:22 PM

pretty cool, I am originally from Pittsburgh and we say Pop, and the county in Florida I live in all say Coke, so that map is right on the money

iBanker 04-06-2006 06:23 PM

Figures the South calls it Coke. I can understand soda, pop, tonic, but COKE? Coke is a brand name of a soda. Dumbasses

gecko 04-06-2006 10:13 PM

Pop sounds more cool:D

Yes because all the people in the south are stupid and all the people in the north are smart. It's fact!

Bob_cougar 04-06-2006 11:55 PM

Coke was created in the south (Atlanta) and they own the south, especially the south east. They basically sponsor everything here. You get a banner made for an event, coke is on the left and right side of it, you have no choice. You go to highschool here all the machines are coke, the score board of your school is coke, the championship teams have equipment bought by them, they come to your school and give anti drug programs ever year. When they made to much Surge drinkk for their olympics add campaign they dumped it off on all the local highschools for free, just pulled up trucks and started unloading the stuff and let the kids tear into it, take as much as you want. The ONLY reason we even have pepsi down here is because it owns Taco Bell/KFC/Pizza Hut and even there we ask for coke and no one says anything.
So THAT'S why every soda down here is coke, because they own everything, very smart on their part.

Not uncommon for a major brand name to become the household name for everything in that industry. How many of you call every electric hand saw a Sawzall just because Milwalkee made the best one and everyone loves that brand?

Vitasoy 04-07-2006 03:05 AM

We call it pop here, but interesting

Scott McD 04-07-2006 03:10 AM

Hmmmm, we never call it any of that shit...

dissipate 04-07-2006 03:14 AM

It's soda damnit.

Babagirls 04-07-2006 03:15 AM

interesting. my man (born in Wisconsin) says Soda....me being born in Pennsylvania, i call it Pop. According to the map, thats about right.

woj 04-07-2006 03:18 AM

:1orglaugh interesting find, but like A1R3K said, wtf? don't people have better things to do... Someone pissed away many hours creating this, and the end result is a map only good for a few laughs, same result could have been achieved by just making up the data... I actually hope that's what the guy that did this did....

Grapesoda 04-07-2006 03:19 AM

where I grew up: co-cola

viki 04-07-2006 03:21 AM

Seems as though urban areas call it soda. I'm from Philly, so hearing "pop" is like nails on a chalkboard.

So, where's the sneakers/tennis shoes map?

I'll give you one that's better than that... Q tip. Who the hell says "cotton swab"

Tom_PM 04-07-2006 08:42 AM

Now we need the Sub, Hero, Hoagie, Po-boy chart!!

Also lets not forget, is it a Shopping Cart, or a Buggy? hehe

G-Rotica 04-07-2006 08:46 AM

Pop is the sound of your head coming out of your ass. It's all Coke, just different flavors.

How in the fuck is Pepsi's Mountain Dew a flavor of their rival Coca Cola?

Tom_PM 04-07-2006 09:32 AM

Thats how it is in the south I hear. You ask for a coke and they say "what flavor" and you say "mt dew" lol. Seems weird to me.

Next time I'm buying a car, I'll ask for a Honda and see if they ask "what kind", so I can say "a Lexus".

You mean Grinder.....right?

Tom_PM 04-07-2006 09:47 AM

Oops forgot Grinder. Probably other names for a sandwich on a long roll too.

Hehe, a map good only for some laughs?
I bet this research was funded by a big company some time ago when these statistics were important. These numbers can be extremely important for advertisement campaigns or for analysing Coke's territory. I think, there are tons of other valuable info you can dig from that map.

Downtime 04-07-2006 09:57 AM

that is fuckin awesome, and from the places I've been to pretty legit. awesome find!

Someone didn't waste that much time ... I bet it could be used for some serious marketing and sales research if you are in the soft drink business.

I went to Massachusetts once and asked what kind of pop they had, I got looked at like I was crazy then told they didn't have that. Then I got yelled at by my boyfriend. They take it seriously there, it's soda.

Glad that we both realize this. I think that we are the only two.

Peaches 04-07-2006 10:50 AM

Yep, it's all "Coke" here. You ask someone "Want a coke? What kind? (Coke, Sprite, root beer, etc)?"
