"A man who was seen having sex with a goat by a train full of commuters and a man out with his grandson, is waiting to be sentenced.


Stephen Hall, 23, of Hull, East Yorkshire, pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to one charge of sexually assaulting the female goat last August.

As he assaulted the animal, a Hull to Bridlington train packed with commuters stopped at nearby signals.

Several passengers saw the attack and called police on their mobile phones.

Officers from the Humberside Police Dog Section arrived and arrested Hall after two other members of the public, who also saw the incident, had wrestled him to the floor.

The judge said he was "sceptical" that any sex offenders programme had been designed that could help a man who had sex with a goat.

Rebecca Thornton, prosecuting, said the nanny goat suffered some distress during its ordeal.

Mitigating for Hall, Chris Dunn said that it was a spontaneous act that was carried out while he was on his way home from his sister's house.

He said: "It is difficult to know how to mitigate in a case such as this. All right-minded, normal-thinking people would find this abhorrent. Clearly this defendant needs help."

Judge Michael Mettyear said: "I have got to tell you that I'm very sceptical that there is any programme that has been devised at the moment, that will help him."

Sentencing has been postponed until this Friday."
