I dunno... maybe its just me but it seemed fine before Bush got here. Everyone was making money, the economy was kicking ass, there were no terrorist attacks, no U.S. led war, no deficit, no enemies, no obscenity cases (well barely), all our civil rights were in tact, states were passing marijauna de-criminalization bills like crazy. That was less than 2 years ago but it seems like its been forever.

Has The Onion ever been more right than this article from the beginning of 2001?

Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity is Finally Over.

WASHINGTON, DC?Mere days from assuming the presidency and closing the door on eight years of Bill Clinton, president-elect George W. Bush assured the nation in a televised address Tuesday that "our long national nightmare of peace and prosperity is finally over."

you guys are a joke
none of the US closes allies (NATO) receives money from the US
the US prefers to spend it on supporting terrorist goverments and dictatorships (yes the US supported Saddam in the 80's and now they support musharraf in pakistan) that they feel supports their interests right now.
they get burned everytime but a few years later another smartass like dubya comes around and decides to try again.
And then everyone wonders why 2 planes suddendly fly into the WTC
oh well

I guess you're one of those european geniuses.
funny how guys from 2nd world countries won't admit that they still get their handouts from the US.

you are a joke
I find it really funny that you believe that the US still hands out money to european nations. They just don't needed it. They needed it long time ago right after WW II and later on to build up their military to be able to hold up the russians in a war for a week or 2.

2nd world country .... you are really funny.
We don't have hundreds of thousands living in some rusty 20 year old motor home.
Having lived in the US and in Europe I can safely say that the living standard in many european nations is higher than in the US.

you never stop to amaze me :1orglaugh

capribex 05-07-2002 09:37 AM

the reason why the US begins to shy away (i think...) is that many of those nobel international organizations are too politically motivated.

it would seem from afar that their entire chapter or terms of reference are humanity. the truth is, many of them are extensions and manifestations of political motivations of too many players.

fuck... even the red cross managed to "lose" millions of dollars donated by americans for the victims of the sep 11 attack...

everybody's got an agenda - and everybody runs to uncle sam to pay for it. i don't know if george bush has big balls or if he is managed by people with big balls (like Condoleezza Rice) but he seem to be making some right decisions lately.

Milton 05-07-2002 09:42 AM

hello!

drumsicle 05-07-2002 09:43 AM

It's time for the US to get some real balls and tell the UN to shove it up their ass. Get the US out of the UN and get the UN out of the US.

PornMeister 05-07-2002 09:49 AM

but here is the signal that's beeing set by the US
We want to go after every person that commits international crimes (war crimes...) but if our own troops happen to commit them we don't want them to face a court.
There are different rules for us cause we are the USA.

I'm sure it's gonna dramatically boost the US popularity in the world :thumbsup

Maybe, and just maybe the US should start to consider that they can't stop terrorism without the help of other countries and that diplomacy is a give and take and not only a take.

The US would have had a hard time with the war in Afghanistant if they russia wouldn't have allowed them to use air bases in usbekistan. Russia supports the US all the way in their war against terror and 2 months later the US cancels the ABM treaty
That's diplomacy.

Maybe it's time for the US to ask themselves why they are so unpopular in the rest of the world?
And could it be that the terror attacks happened because of the US unpopularity?

There is a saying ... What goes around comes around

capribex 05-07-2002 10:01 AM

the reason the free world is joining america's war is not necessarily because it is part of the UN or the international court etc. - it is because the free world shares the same interests. the world fights terrorism with the US because it doesn't want to fight it alone when the terrorist will target them.

it is a matter of time until terror will spread worldwide (it already is...) and coalitions form because of that...

the russians are not in love with the americans. they have their own shit in chechniya, and the chechens have already strike in moscow by downing some buildings...

i think it is fair to say that there are real interests here which are not related to the popularity of the US.

i think bush is right on this one. the US doesn't fight the war of becoming loved and popular. it is fighting a war against crazy fanatic islamic terror - and this is a cause shared by many free countries worldwide.

PornMeister 05-07-2002 10:04 AM

imho europe should not support the us in their war against terror.
It's time for europe to be just as selfish as the US is and always has been.
If our troops don't find the muslims they have no interest in terrorist attacks against them. If we don't activly prosecute them they'll use our countries as a hideout and carry out their attacks in the US ... far away
But unfortunatly europe has morals and even though they get fucked everytime by the US (steel tariffs) we still continue to support them 100%

PornMeister 05-07-2002 10:06 AM

the international court would make it clear that every nation has to obey to the same rules.
Obviously the US thinks that different rules apply to them

We were and still are the largest single military force in NATO.
In addition if it had not been for the trillions of dollars we spent on our military and military technology. All of Europe, would have long ago been member states of the USSR.

Quote:

"...that they feel supports their interests right now." This is of course the way it should be.

Quote:

Correction; not many, but instead a few with a per capita higher standard of living, but this does not alter the fact the the US is by far the richest most militarily powerful nation on the earth.

Quote:

Of course there are different rules for the USA. There are always different rules for the richest and most powerful, and always will be.

Quote:

I'm sure it's gonna dramatically boost the US popularity in the world
The richest and most powerful will always be envied, but popularity is not a goal to persue, self interest is, and all nations persue self interest.

Quote:

Maybe, and just maybe the US should start to consider that they can't stop terrorism without the help of other countries and that diplomacy is a give and take and not only a take.
The help of other nations, while useful, is not necessary. The US gives what it wants and takes what it wants (though we mostly give and seldom take). One of the benefits of being the richest and most powerful nation on the Earth.

Quote:

The US would have had a hard time with the war in Afghanistant if they russia wouldn't have allowed them to use air bases in usbekistan. Russia supports the US all the way in their war against terror and 2 months later the US cancels the ABM treaty
That's diplomacy.
The money we give Russia in aid is why the Russians allowed us the use of air bases, that is diplomacy. While the use of the air bases, made the job easier, they were not necessary. It was time for the ABM treaty to go. The ABM treaty was entered into to help prevent a first strike by either the US or the Soviets. The reason being that if either side thought that they had a viable defense, they would be in a position to strike and survive a counter strike. The Soviet empire is no longer a threat to us since it does not exist anymore, and a viable ABM system can prevent some 3rd world nation, determined to end its existence, from striking us.

Quote:

Maybe it's time for the US to ask themselves why they are so unpopular in the rest of the world?
No it isn't. We are not running in a popularity contest.

Quote:

And could it be that the terror attacks happened because of the US unpopularity?
I am sure we were, and are quite unpopular, with the ones that were dumb enough to attack us, even more so now. They were like a mosquito attacking an elephant's ass.

Quote:

There is a saying ... What goes around comes around
True. The ones that attacked us are getting their "come around".

Quote:

It's time for europe to be just as selfish as the US is and always has been.
Maybe we should have let Hitler keep Europe.

You are a very naive person.
