Decent but inexpensive restaurants in Vegas?

My mother and her boyfriend are going to Vegas next tuesday and had called me to know if I knew any places that were decent to go out to eat but nothing really expensive.

Since I know there are a few conventions and alot of webmasters who live in Vegas, I thought i'd ask here.

She mentioned the "Peppermill" and something about "Terribles." If you've eaten here, how was it? Food good? Price right?

What are some other good places to go, must see's/eat?

I appreciate all help here. :thumbsup :thumbsup

no idea since I don't live in Vegas

I don't live in Vegas so I know of all the really expensive touristy type places to eat but nothing else too useful after that. Although if she is wanting to see a fantastic show she should go see Blue Man Group. I think it is one of the best shows on the strip for sure.

Read the Anal Hobits tip : Anal Hobit's Tip on how to get Free Food in Vegas.

1. Find The Grand Lux Cafe.. Its in the Venetian. If you are with a group, just order water. Its free. If other people are at the table, FREE BREAD comes to the table. It is UNLIMITED.. Cake some butter on the bread, and it is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! You could eat 2 loafs of this tasty treat and be full as if you had a very fufilling meal!!

What if you are by yourself you say? Well, get a seat. Order a coke. Why a coke? Becasue it has 180 calories per serving. And whats better its BOTTOMLESS!!! Free refills. Keep drinking em down. Its only $2.00 and you can easily drink 12.00 worth. Also this buys you time. Tell the waiter you are looking at the Menu, and need some time. And to bring you out some BREAD while you are waiting. Drink your coke and your free bread to your hearts content. When the waiter comes back, tell em "actually I should wait for my firends before I order, May I wait here" He will say yes. Then tell him can I get another coke and more bread please.. He will comply. Stay for 1 hour. Get full, and come back later that night for the night shift.

Youd be suprised how fufilling this bread with butter and Coke can be!

Been to Vegas only once so I am not an expert on the best place...but the Italian restaurant you were told is great. We have one in Tampa

A very cheap Chinese All you can eat for around $8 somewhere close to Paris hotel, with a wide range of food, incl. dessert, less drinks, and a more stylish and excellent food at the Luxor hotel buffet, very nice design (located under the casino games ground floor) for around $12, incl. drinks and healthy food. :)

First and foremost... FHM.. BAD! BAD! VERY bad!!! lol..

Now, as for Vegas... there are some VERY cheap seafood buffets all over town... Which has always been a matter of concern for me. How the hell do you get the BEST CRAB LEGS IN THE USA in the middle of the bloody desert for $2.99 ???! That's dodgy.

I recommend you lend your mother your AMEX and let her have some fun! She IS your mother afterall! :winkwink:

(Actually, I did have a surprisingly excellent steak at Terribles once, quite by accident... and it wasn't very expensive by typical Vegas-strip standards.)

(..and if they leave the strip, it's just the same as any other US suburb really, but that will unquestionably take the 'fantasy' out of the whole experience!)

i know some great places but they are all close to my house in summerlin... people who live here avoid the strip and downtown whenever possible

I am going to have to second this one. Tical took me there this year and this place was amazing. Plenty of food per head, wait staff was impecable, and the overall experience was one of the best I've had in Vegas.

Another nice and reasonable place to try is Hugo's Cellar, a lot of history there and it's in the older part of the Strip, so you have a chance to get away for an evening for a nice meal away from the hustle and bustle of all the lights if you want.

There is a good chinese place at Bellagio by the Elevators to get into the rooms (to the right of the elevators). It's chinese, but they have steaks and shit and the food was pretty damn good. Also, it's very modern looking and nice place to bring some people. Last I remember it was pretty cheap too. It's the only resteurant in vegas that didn't give me the shits so it gets my seal of approval.

JerseyPuma 04-06-2006 07:13 AM

Maggiano's is good if you get a good waiter. Peppermill Lounge is a really cool place, although I haven't eaten there.

BigB 04-06-2006 07:15 AM

Off the strip

The Venetian Restaurant (HAS no tie to the venetian hotel)

Still to date... the best bowl of cupino Ive ever had.

Yeah Blue Man is awesome, I saw them here in Chicago. I was just out in Vegas but the only restuarant we hit up was a great and not real expensive mexican restaurant in New York New York Casino. Can't remember the name sorry. Tons of places to eat tho.

Joesho 04-06-2006 07:31 AM

Terribles is good for there T-Bone
Peppermill is good.

STAY AWAY FROM THE BUFFETS THEY SUCK

SxDx 04-06-2006 07:42 AM

Buffett at the Rio is really goood. About $20-$25 for dinner...and you can eat all night if you want to.

Lace 04-06-2006 09:15 AM

Good deal! :thumbsup Thanks everyone

I wouldn't eat any seafood there. Actually unless I'm near the sea, I don't eat any seafood.

tical 04-06-2006 09:25 AM

One more thing, if they want a cheap breakfast Monday - Thursday... go to the golden nugget or the orleans... I think all of the station casinos do this too.

Steak and Eggs for 2.95, 3 pancakes and eggs for like 1.95 and all sorts of other deals to get you in the casino door to spend money... I never gamble but take advantage of this when my friends are in town... usually after a long night

There might be some other casinos on the strip that do it as well so you don't have to hop in a cab, just ask if the cafe has breakfast specials.

Gonzales Y Gonzales is the Mexican one in the NY NY...excellent food. We also had decent food at the ESPN restaurant in the same hotel. The thing about Vegas is, the portions are HUGE so a couple could easily share and entree and be completely full.

When I'm there for a show I typically stay in the hotel for every meal just to maximize time but when I was there on vacation with my husband we ventured out a little.

The Peppermill is not too bad at all for a place right on the strip. The decor is a little cheesy but the food was good.

There's also a big restaurant on the casino level in the Monte Carlo that has the best Thai Linguine. Again, huge portions, enough to feed a 300lb linebacker.

Make sure they make reservations a few days in advance to get a good seating time... this place is awesome, its a really nice restaraunt they'll love it!

I've done some reviews for vegas restaurants, here's some of the better specials... On a budget, the best way to get good food cheap is go to the nice restaurants for lunch and casual stuff for dinner.

For steak - Try the Palm restaurant inside the forum, right next to the Caesars inside casino entrance. It's only $18. for the "business lunch" special. GREAT filet mignon and cottage fries.

For modern Italian - Try olives @ Bellagio during lunch, around $15-20. pp, great if you like olive tapenade and fresh bread too. She can watch the fountain show from the balcony there also.

Steak & Shrimp - One of the best deals in vegas, it's a "secret" special you have to ask for, not on the menu. About $6., open 24/7 too.

All you can drink wine - Battista's hole in the wall, behind the flamingo. Italian place with fairly good pasta, and all the wine you can drink included.

Hope that helps!
