If you have Fireworks use the batch processing that comes with it. If not, Ulead Smartsaver Pro is pretty handy.

Speaking of Arles, it makes the best thumbs ever :) For compression, I just use Paint Shop Pro.. but I don't deal in mass images too much like a gallery creator would.
