Pornkings - What's going on here?

Is it the new version of NATs or just a screwup in your system or what or am I crazy? I just put out a few gals, getting clicks, and noticed the clicks are lower than they'd normally be when I push gals out..when you first click the link on the gal, goes to one link code (the proper one - *sometimes*), then the code changes to an entirely different one, then if you click join inside of the tour page, another entirely different one. These are rotating, but completely different from any of our codes. I ICQ'd but noone answered much earlier. Anyone around to maybe help me understand this or look into it?

Thanks,

JM

Bump!!! :)

BillyHoe 04-04-2006 10:03 PM

If you post link examples that might help them find the problem. CAuse sounds a bit confusing

ShaneRyale 04-04-2006 10:07 PM

I know the guys at NATS take affiliate shaving VERY seriously.

newbreed 04-04-2006 10:11 PM

Can you post some examples of the galleries you are having problems with?

jerzeemedia 04-04-2006 10:14 PM

Doing some investigating now, will post after. Thanks for the bumps.

Nathan 04-05-2006 01:07 AM

Please definately let me on ICQ know if you do not post them here!

I just got an e-mail from them:

As you may know Porn Kings recently upgraded our tracking system, though we are currently translating old links to new links, we will cease to do this on July 1st 2006 and we will require that prior to this date you to change your old linking codes to the new linking code that you can find in our upgraded affiliate area, We are currently noticing that the number of raw hits are extremely inflated due to the translation system of the old linking codes.

In order to give our affiliates better data we will need old links switched to the proper NATS link codes that are in the affiliate area ASAP.

AGAIN: Please be sure to change your codes, On July 1st 2006 we will deactivate the translation script, you should have plenty of time to change any major link spots that you have on your sites.

Interesting

Bike 04-05-2006 02:36 AM

Sponsors don't realize it takes hours to change linkcodes and a lot of money to hire description writers again :( :(

I don't understand why it is so hard to let the old linking codes work forever. I couldn't care less if my ratio looks inflated. I only care about the $$$ I make...

mOrrI 04-05-2006 02:44 AM

that sucks... having to change all the link codes :P

BluMedia 04-05-2006 02:46 AM

We changed to Nats over a year ago and are still forwarding link codes. Why a sponsor would not keep forwarding old link codes is beyond me.

Well, it's quite simple actually. It means more $$ for the program. If all programs just shut off the old links, and gave everyone new links... they'd have a new burst of money each time.

Sponsors: please read this :thumbsup

jerzeemedia 04-05-2006 10:13 AM

The link codes were created last night, so it's not an issue of updating/changing the links. It's the first time promoting the site in question, and the first time using the link code (from the new upgraded system).

media 04-05-2006 10:13 AM

This is a courtesy notice, 90 days....

We may decide to keep the links active, but right now this was the decision we made... Raw hits look like 4X more than they should be on alot of affiliates traffic due to the translation script, you guys don't know anything about the translation system in place and what we had to do, to match up peoples links properly with the old system so there should be none of this "Oh well a good sponsor would do this!!!" crap... a good sponsor also wouldnt shave your ass, a good sponsor would also let you know that link codes need to change 3 MONTHS before they have a date set...

We've already had MANY affiliates change links that we've contacted on a personal one on one basis.. this notice is going to go out once a week to everyone until july 1st so that you change the links.

Jerzee, as for your issue about the linking code, please hit me up and I will investigate it with you, we've had problems here and there pop up, our programmers are on it, and nats is on it whenever this happens.

We're not shaving our affiliates traffic or trying to redirect traffic to other link codes...

So please hit me up, [email protected] or icq 84700583

Anyone else have any problems hit me up, the door is always open...

media 04-05-2006 10:17 AM

Ok... you know what.. since all of you guys are not wanting to change links to get accurate traffic, we'll keep the redirects active....

media 04-05-2006 10:18 AM

LINKS WILL TRANSLATE FROM OLD TO NEW STILL!!!

You guys got your wish!!!

That is a wise move. While you may hate inflated ratios there is 0 chance I would go change link codes on hundreds or thousands of pages. I'd just as soon do a bulk replace of every page with new promo from a new sponsor or drop them completely and let my 404 handle it for me.

jerzeemedia 04-05-2006 10:54 AM

Seems this might be something to do with their "translation" script..so I'd rule out shaving, but it's still a rather strange process. Heh.

Jerzee gave me permission to post our conversation for the record for you all so this is what was said and the explanation for what he was seeing happen:

Media (10:45 AM) : check this out...
Media (10:45 AM) : http://nats.club21.com/track/ODA5MjU1OjI6MjM/
Media (10:45 AM) : go there.. you'll see the weird code up top after it translates..
Media (10:45 AM) : then click instant access...
Media (10:45 AM) : you should see: http://nats.club21.com/signup/signup...OjI6MjM&step=2 in the browser url bar
Media (10:46 AM) : which is the nats code you are given..
JM (10:47 AM) : i see this
JM (10:47 AM) : after i click
JM (10:47 AM) : http://www.club21.com/?nats=MTQ6MjoyMw,0,0,0,0
Media (10:50 AM) : yes, that has something to do with the translation
Media (10:50 AM) : but it IS your nats ID in that page...
Media (10:51 AM) : view the source of that page...
Media (10:51 AM) : you will see: <script language="JavaScript" src="http://nats.pornkings.com/popup_code.php?nats=ODA5MjU1OjI6MjM,0,0,0,0"></script>

<!-- NID: ODA5MjU1OjI6MjM,0,0,0,0 -->
JM (10:51 AM) : ahh ok
JM (10:51 AM) : clciks are really off for pichunter traffic
Media (10:52 AM) : you can see it's carrying your nats id in the page
Media (10:52 AM) : you could always try running your hit through an out.php and see how the hits look on our end to your end..
JM (10:53 AM) : nod
JM (10:53 AM) : welp, so that's that?
Media (10:53 AM) : cuz I can guarantee you we are not shaving, I take that accusation pretty seriously and hope that you'll follow up on your post to clarify that it is the translation script doing what it is supposed to do..
Media (10:53 AM) : I know that it is a valid concern..
Media (10:54 AM) : but when it's on the board, people will get a bad idea off it....
JM (10:54 AM) : yep

So, for some of you that may see some off link in the url, just view the source, you'll see your nats code in there, and when you click to join you should see the nats code in the url bar...

If you see otherwise, please hit me up, this would be some kind of other problem.. The issue jerzee had is just the translation script doing it's job to make sure both OLD and NEW links are working correctly...

Thanks for contacting me Jerzee! :thumbsup

SmokeyTheBear 04-05-2006 11:30 AM

my advice is dont switch the codes , because if my old links arent tracked i will just pull them instead of replacing them ( just being honest )

Well smokey, I understand where you're coming from, but we want our hits to be as accurate as possible for people when we post ratios, not under or over inflated.. this is why we wanted to really stress the change...

I don't see why some people are not willing to work to get accurate stats with their traffic, this is a issue in a business, I guess alot of people are either lazy, or are spiteful that they have to work in this industry...

It kinda defeats the purpose to take the effort to remove a link rather than replace a link if it was making you money along the way... it's one less kink in the chain for your own traffic, and one less point of failure.. because as we all know, nothing is 100% perfect on tracking, so we want to make it as good as it can get for our affiliates, but I guess this also involves leaving the translation up..

So, anyways, I've decided because of this, we will keep the link translation active indefinetly... People do need to try and change link codes though as they can... we will still stress this...
