It's all about big business.. The real casinos don't want added competition.. If you can gamble online, who needs to go to the casinos? At least that would be my guess as to who's behind it.

Close... the brick and mortar casinos want to be the only ones that can profit from online gaming.

California long since ruled that poker isn't gambling (it is a game of skill), which is why there are poker clubs around LA.

The problem is those who cant control themself. Here, its not illegal to gamble a little, but its not legal to make a living out of it. That make sense.

Its not legal to create gambling websites or casinos/bookmakers IRL either. Ironically there is one organization that has monopoly and pay the government "fees". That monopoly might be shut down by EU parlament, because of the free market idea.

It's about taxes. Not to let the money leave.
Actually it's very right from the side of US.
Why let the money leave to Gibraltar?

Gamblig is banned. VISA and MC don't accept any gambling transactions.

yes that's what I was getting at.. If you have enough money in your industry, you can get what ever laws you want passed.. Especially if you can get the moralists behind it..

Don't they just love to ban *anything* and come up with the excuse - ie as to why it's for the protection of those with a gaming addiction. It's good for you - just trust us :-)

Meanwhile other countries are laying on "facilities" (and laws) to enable net gaming and doing nicely.
