it looks fake, so as long as it doesnt contain anything toxic or illegal you should be fine

u-Bob 04-04-2006 05:47 AM

google:
"It is perfectly legal possess and to sell Human Bones in the United States. Human tissues (for example, organs) are not. One of the main sources of confusion on this issue is India's 1987 ban on the exportation of human bones. Prior to 1987, the majority of human bones for sale here and in other countries were prepared in India. When in 1987, India stopped its exportation of human bones, many US news sources phrased it as a ban on the sale of human bones when in fact it was a merely a ban on exportation from one particular country and had no effect on United States laws. Since then, China has become the main supplier of human bones to the US. However, a large number of Indian bones still remain in the United States and may be freely sold."

headless ghost 04-04-2006 05:47 AM

Mythbusters buy human bones pretty often. Like when they rebuilt their crash test dummy, they went to a store and bought femurs and tibulas and crap to see how much force it took to break them. Turned out using poplar wood was a close match.

It was in pieces when I got it. I had to do major reconstruction and document the techniques I used. That was the deal the prof who gave it to me made.

GatorB 04-04-2006 07:03 AM

I hope in 200 years someone uses your skull for a knick-knack.

Quit your fucking whining. It was found in pieces 2 feet under the sediment on a flood plain in southern Indiana.

Drake 04-04-2006 07:14 AM

male or female? Is it possible to tell by the skull alone?

SilentKnight 04-04-2006 07:35 AM

C'mon now...just give Hoffa a decent burial and keep him off eBay.

Yes. Structure of the ocular orbits and brow indicate female. Dentition points to age of death at around 28.

Interesting, has it been dated?

Gator was pretty close. Carbon dating is obviously useless in this short a time frame, but from artifacts and junk in the midden that was found nearby, I'm pinning it to around 250 years old.

iWeb_Rowena 04-04-2006 08:09 AM

Jimthefiend, where you able to meet the spirit of that skull?

:(
