Explain 'Overture Rankings'
hmmm - we're not supposed to mention other webmaster resources/boards here or something like that - alrighty then, i won't mention it by name or link to it - let's just say it's a webmaster RESOURCE site about the PORN industry - on this site broken down by niches there are rankings lists based on 'Overture Rankings' and 'Alexa Rankings' - there's no explanation of how the Overture Rankings are calculated by them or whoever is doing them. Anybody know?
The rankings lists are pretty much bullshit as far as I can tell - Alexa rankings are completely out of whack when you have hosted galleries on the same domain. Overture Rankings i have no clue how those are done. |
well I think I know the site you're talking about and I was wondering about the overture rankings as well... do they just do a search on overture and check how many times it was searched for?
do they also calculate mistypes etc because the sites I checked were waaaaay off.. |
The Overture Ranking on the site you are talking about is calculated based on the number of times someone searched for the complete URL during the month in question, e.g. site XXX's October Overture Ranking is the number of times during October that some searched for "xxx.com".

Overture rankings are generally pretty good at comparing traffic levels... there is an occasional hiccup sometimes that causes anomalies.... but generally they would be a pretty good barometer.
The numbers update once a month... so if there is a hiccup, it will often get corrected in the following month You can check relative ranking yourself by going here and typing in different phrases, for example; Tawnee Stone http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...=us&lang=en_US Jordan Capri http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...=us&lang=en_US The Overture numbers would be affected somewhat depending on which domain the FHG's are on. For example, Traffic Cash Gold hosts all of their FHG's on wannawatch.com and therefore there are people searching for 'wannawatch.com' hoping to find their FHG's You wouldn't expect wannawatch.com to have much traffic otherwise, as there is no site there... but here are the results for wannawatch.com http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...=us&lang=en_US |
that second example was Nubiles.net, not Jordan Capri
|
Overture generates very useful keyword search data which in turn provides value guidance on domains.
