most common video res and bitrate these days, and format..?
curious for any opinion or knowledge here... what are the most commonly used resolutions and bitrates for video media in paysites these days? i'm so far planning on sticking w/ WMV9 format at the moment, but if any think other formats are more appropriate i'd like to hear why...
i am thinking two different sizes would be good to offer, one for broadband at a heavy fileweight and one in a smaller size for those not on such fast connections... also curious how people are presenting video these days, in segments of some certain size or in very large "full length" formats? any input or suggestions would be great, setting up a new site very soon and am wanting to plan out the media file logistics early... thx in advance all..! http://twash.com/iku/leperkiss.gif |

wmv - 100kbps wmv - 750kbps mpeg - 1000kbps video for ipod |
and I do one full length video, and then I break the video up into 7-8 minute segments

jace, one other thing... can you tell me perhaps roughly what kind of file weight you are left w/ when encoding a full length movie (i'm assuming 1-1.5 hours?)? i've never offered full-length video media on my sites before so a little curious how big these files get..

wmv. 480kbs - 540kbs 512/384

Re
We do WMV 640x420, hell of the sizes, but customers like it this way. They can open it full screen and enjoy without stoping. Movies of 10-15 minutes is about 80-150 MG, and with broadband available now everywhere its not taking long to get it.

thx a bunch friends, will be using all of this to plan our new media filesets in the coming week. any recommendations of the best/fastest encoding software packages for generating .wmv's? would be nice to find an encoder that also did tasks such as cropping, color correction and white-balance at the same time... removing virtualDub from the equation would be nice time-wise..!
