GigaCash and Epassporte

Just got the following message from GigaCash:

Quote:

Hello,

As a fraud protection measure, please note:

A minimum payout of $100 is required for Epassporte payment option.
To receive payments via Epassporte you must fax a copy of a government
issued photo ID showing your name and address, or government issued
passport.
Please include your account number.
Fax: (310) 734-1577

If we do not receive a fax from you, commission payments may be mailed
to the address on your signup form.

Mike
It looks strange a bit... Has anybody here received something similar?

HairToStay 04-03-2006 04:17 PM

Not from GigaCash but ARS and another big sponsor was requesting similar documents due to massive fraud via ePassporte.

The only one the ePassporte fraud could come from is a payer but not a receiver! The affiliates should ask the sponsors for their docs but not the contrary. So should I ask all my sponsors (I'm promoting more than 300 ones) to fax me a copy of a government issued photo ID showing your name and address, or government issued passport??? What if they are cheaters? I don't want my ePassporte account closed because of some fraudulent payer...

And as about the case with GigaCash. I don't know if it's ok to send your personal info to everyone in the USA, but it's not allowed in my country. The personal info here could be provided to the 3rd party by request of court only. Otherwise such an info could be used for criminal purposes.

Personally I'd never sell a sponsor which asked me for some personal ifo such as ID's etc. There is a shitload of others around :)

Furious_Male 04-03-2006 05:05 PM

I did not receive that from them nor will I send it if I do get it.

Do you know that such a request is a VIOLATION of your own terms and the agreement between GigaCash and your affiliates (note there nothing said that your affiliate have to provide you a copy of my id's when they were signing it)?

But that's ok with me. You just one of 300+ sponsors I'm working with, but my personal info is unique and confidential. Furthermore I also afraid of ePassporte fraud so I also have to ask you to fax me a copy of a government issued photo ID showing the name and address, or government issued passport of the GigaCash's principal. I don't want my ePass account closed in case of some fraudulent sponsor... Would you send me such an information? So will you send me such an info? I guess no. So I'm sorry but I have to stop promoting your program. You will be removed from our database and webmaster directories within 24 hours.

hmm interesting indeed...

just a punk 04-03-2006 05:49 PM

Yep that's really interesting. While some sponsors are ready to "kill" everyone just to gather more affiliates, the other ones just doing anything to frighten away their owns :)

P.S. Looking for a sponsor who won't ask you send away your id's, give away your wife, and give it a key from your home? So take a look at my sig :winkwink: These sposnsors trust to their affiliates!

just a punk 04-03-2006 06:06 PM

No one partnership can to ask me or someone else to send out any confidential info such as scan of id's etc. Furthermore if I'd be a scammer, I'd just do the following:
1) Fax em' an id's of any other person (say an id of any fucker who posing for the content)
2) Change my registration info to that person.
3) Then scam that sponsor.

So is it a way to protect from scammers? No way! It's just a way to lose the affiliates who takes care of his confidential info.

This sucks!!! :(

I'm sure Gigacash has their reasons. But If a sponsor i was using asked me for my ID, i'd laugh & fax them a copy of my ass.

Trust goes a long way on both ends. If you are not defrauding what do you have to worry about? Mind you, I would not send the appropriate info to every tom dick and harry just starting out, but sharing the info with long established programs would be not a problem:2 cents:

Perhaps the fraudsters were commiting fraud by sending bogus signups using stolen credit cards. I suppose with a check or bank wire, there's at least a paper trail.

flashfire 04-04-2006 03:09 AM

I wouldnt send my id to anyone

HairToStay 04-04-2006 03:53 AM

I refused to send when asked, because my business is paid by each sponsor, not me personally. If they want a copy of a business license or tax ID that's cool. Otherwise, sorry, I won't send it out. I don't travel, what if I don't drive? I'd have no government issued ID.

From the way I read it, people were signing up in large groups, making a lot of bogus signups, then grabbing the cash from ePassporte very quickly. And, as you know, once the money is out of their account, it's gone. They don't have to keep a bank account on file like PayPal for a sponsor to retrieve funds.

I told the sponsor who wanted this from me I'd been getting payments for 2 years and if they didn't trust me now, go back to sending me a check. I still get paid via ePassporte.

I think (and this is my opinion) most would agree to keep paying via ePassporte if you're a long time webmaster.

Such a request came from epassporte, not from Gigacash ...

Michael O 04-04-2006 08:30 AM

I only had to do it with ARS.
I sent a page from my passporte and blacked out any sensitive information like my Personal Identification Number and Passporte number.
I have no problems with providing ID with the information blacked out.
