It's pornography. And if you're a consumer, John Harmer thinks you're damaging your brain.

Harmer is part of a cadre of anti-porn activists seeking new tactics to fight an unprecedented deluge of porn which they see as wrecking countless marriages and warping human sexuality. They are urging federal prosecutors to pursue more obscenity cases and raising funds for high-tech brain research that they hope will fuel lawsuits against porn magnates.

"I've seen the damage it does to marriages, to families," he said.

Though he stressed the need for individual willpower, Laaser also faulted the porn industry for employing aggressive online technologies that "besiege you."

What I hate are those among us who are either to young or do not know the very history of our business to not remember that these people damn near destroyed our industry once before and think we are bullet proof.

They are organized, they are connected, they have political backing, they have resources, they have spokesmen, and they have countless media outlets to run their propaganda because porn stories get eyeballs.

When a porn story breaks the media always turns to one of these groups to get their opinions and outrages regarding it. When politicians needs numbers or "facts" you should already know to who's reports they turn to.

These groups also keep very abreast of each and every possible law and issue that can be used as a weapon against us. They have the tactics down pact and they have figured out how to skew the media to associate porn with child pornography always in the same sentence. They are not thinking short term and these groups know how to battle a long war. Each and every step is very calculated and more complex than attempting to fire a tenured teacher in the public school system.

These are the same type of groups that the pro choice advocates have been fighting against. (excuse the parallel) They take simple small steps in the wording of the laws, and through calculated legal challenges to slowly erode the rights set forth by the courts state by state. Despite abortion begin legal these groups have made it nearly impossible to get one in assorted states without jumping through a wide assortment of legal steps, and they keep pushing. Now keep in mind the pro choice advocates are organized, have funding, spokesmen, and a good deal of popular clout behind them unlike our industry.

We as an industry have no allies and no friends. The only ones that support us are those of us making the money and the vast silent majority who view our material in private yet will not support us in public. So do not think we have any right to exist and that we can rest on the fact that what we do is legal. Legality only remains for what people are able and willing to fight to keep legal and I do not see that in our industry.
