Text messaging. The most expensive form of communication known to man.

Aside from, perhaps, sending your inane messages by courier.

rotterdammer 04-02-2006 04:02 AM

I dont text so much,

Rebecca Love 04-02-2006 04:24 AM

I can just imagine these school kids sending their messages to all of their friends just because they can..

a: "Sup?"
b: "nm"
a: "cool"
b: "yeh"
a: "eating lunch today?"
b: "yeh"
a: "cool - me too"
b: "k"
a: "gtg"
b: "k"

That drivel racks up the bucks quick..

bjjb 04-02-2006 08:29 AM

I use txt msging more than actually using my cell. I find it cheaper and quicker, even more so that email sometimes. I love that shit.

the "k" reply is just something I can't conceive. is this the txt version of "copy"

woj 04-03-2006 03:13 AM

That text messaging is a scam, it uses 10000 times less bw/capacity than normal voice conversation, yet it costs 5-10 cents each... It's not much, but you can quickly rack up, $10-$20 in charges...

rigrunner 04-03-2006 03:14 AM

it was costing me shedloads.. until i blagged my way to an uber cheap contract on 02 UK :D

XX_RydeR 04-03-2006 04:08 AM

yeah, it's usually cheaper to actually make a 30 second call, considering you will send more than 3 sms's per convo.

Rydz.

bjjb 04-03-2006 06:01 AM

80% of my text msgs go to Europe so its much cheaper than calling loll

Calvinguy 04-03-2006 06:07 AM

don't most operators offer a flat fee for unlimited text massaging?

VicD 04-03-2006 06:24 AM

no, not at all

Even more of a scam in Australia, typical rate for an SMS is 20-25c (Australian) which is about 14-18c in USD. There are specials with lower rates between cells on the same carrier, or free during specific periods etc, but that's the general charge.

Setting up a GSM voice call probably generates more bandwidth and phone/base station chatter than an SMS. What a rip.

Sam Granger 04-03-2006 07:41 AM

I send messages with pigeons.

Cause it's not as cool...

It's like it was back with the cb radio craze in the 70's..
More fun to get on the cb and say, "What's your 10-20?" "That's a big 10-4" ..

And like the internet newbies that discover the online cards they can email
to their friends.. They drive their friends crazy cause they thinks it's cool.. Like they're the first to discover them...
